One of the major support acts of the Festival Stakes Day line-up at Rosehill this Saturday in Sydney sees a small field of sprinters face off in the 2015 Starlight Stakes, betting tips for the handicap feature detailed below.
Eight runners make of the field for this year’s $100,000 Listed The HQ Of Insurance Starlight Stakes (1100m) that is set to run as Rosehill Race 5 at 3:05pm (AEST).
Short priced favourite for the win in the latest Starlight Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au at $2.60 is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained O’Reilly mare Dublin Lass.
The five-year-old is one-from-one at Rosehill and comes off a brave second when narrowly beaten in tougher company at Flemington in the wet in the Group 3 G.H. Mumm Stakes (1100m) from Crown Oaks Day.
Her main dangers of improving on that run and remaining undefeated at Rosehill according to the bookies in the Starlight Stakes odds are the stablemate That’s A Good Idea ($3.10) in the outside alley with the 60kg top weight and the Con Karakatsanis-trained Howmuchdoyouloveme ($5.50) shooting for back-to-back wins at the track and distance.
So will the three under double figures for the win get the job done or is there an upset Starlight Stakes result on the cards from the likes of Fiftyshadesofgrey ($10) on the short back-up once again or David Pfieffer’s Lonhro eight-year-old Tahitian Black ($11)?
#3 Dublin Lass ($2.60)
She is the firming favourite and deservedly so, looking hard to beat second-up with a strong record two runs in so far (3-1-2-0). Her resuming run at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival was an eye-catching Group 3 second when beaten only half a length carrying 55.5kg from barrier eight. Her last Sydney start produced a Randwick win over 1200m back in April and she is drawn to win from the inside alley with Kerrin McEvoy aboard this weekend when she drops back to 54kg.
#7 Fiftyshadesofgrey ($10)
Looking to break her black-type maiden this Marc Conners-trained five-year-old Written Tycoon mare runs for the third consecutive Saturday after a third over 1200m two back and her 1100m win last weekend. Down from 58kg that win to 54kg on Saturday is ideal as is barrier three with James McDonald retaining the ride for this seemingly over-priced mare who is fit and flying.
#1 That’s A Good Idea ($3.10)
The other Snowden runner is no doubt the class horse in the race but does give the big kilos away with 60kg here. He is three runs into his latest campaign and ran very well in the two lead-ups at Randwick in October for a Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) third to Group 1 winner Terravista and a second in a Listed sprint over this distance last start. Two trials since have kept him fit and if he handles the weight can beat these.
