2015 Mode Plate Betting Tips

This weekend Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse hosts a quality eight-race program for George Moore Stakes Day including the fillies’ only Mode Plate 2015, betting tips for which can be found below.

Secret Saga

Running as Race 6 at 3:37pm (QLD time), this year’s $100,000 Zetta 1 Mode Plate (1200m) originally drew a final field of 16 three-year-old fillies but the early withdrawal of Shadow Lawn, who was drawn the outside alley, leaves 15 in the mix.

Mode Plate betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, where punters can lock in Best Tote or SP + 20% on Saturday’s George Moore Stakes, are led by the widely-drawn Secret Saga ($3.50).

She has gate 13 to overcome but is two wins from her past three runs and comes from the Brisbane Trainers’ Premiership leading stables of Tony Gollan.

Her latest effort was a 1050m win at the track, her fourth from seven Doomben runs, which she won by 1.5 lengths ahead of her step back up to 1200m that she last raced over at Randwick in the Listed BR Crowley Stakes when sixth to Counterattack.

Five other fillies are also under $10 in the latest Mode Plate odds including early market mover Thorsborne ($8) for Sydney’s Gerald Ryan, fellow NSW visitor Riapinka ($8) prepared by Newcastle’s Kris Lees and the Sunshine Coast’s Banda Spice ($8) set to get a lovely run from barrier two with Damian Browne aboard.

So can Secret Saga get the job done for the favourite backers or is there value further down the Mode Plate markets from the likes of La Dolce Vita ($11) who was runner-up to the favourite last time out or even the returning Gillian Heinrich-trained Charge Forward filly Military Miss ($21) for an upset?

1st

#6 Banda Spice ($8)

Stuart Kendrick’s Show A Heart filly is drawn to get the run of the race from barrier two with Browne aboard as she looks to break both her Doomben and 1200m maiden status. She has had six runs at the track for two thirds, the latest of which was against the boys on November 7 when beaten only 0.4 lengths by In His Stride. She has a similar record over the distance with five runs for two thirds, but is progressive and looks a big hope from the gate at set weights here.

2nd

#1 Secret Saga ($3.50)

Deserving favourite and class filly in the field, but even Gollan has concerns about the wide draw in a big field. Still, the ace Doomben record (7-4-1-0) and the quality 1.5 length win here last time out is enough to suggest the daughter of Real Saga can be hard to run down again with the right run with cover.

3rd

#7 La Dolce Vita ($11)

If it is the form of Secret Saga you are following then this Bradley Smith-trained Ferocity grey looks well priced. She was second to Saturday’s favourite at the track last time out a fortnight back and is up in class but racing very consistently with three wins and a second from her five career starts to date. Nice barrier four draw and Luke Tarrant retains the ride so can run a good place again.

To get behind our favourites or your own 2015 Mode Plate betting selections on Saturday at the right price take two minutes now to open a new account with Ladbrokes.com.au where depositing just $50 and entering the code BONUS150 will see you enjoy an extra $150 in bonuses!
