2015 ATC Cup Tips & Selections

A small but quality field of stayers line up in the second at Rosehill Gardens on Festival Stakes Day this weekend, the ATC Cup 2015 betting tips found below.

Telepathic

Odds-on favourite Telepathic looks hard to bet against in Saturday’s 2015 ATC Cup at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney. Photo: Steve Hart.

Due to jump as Race 2 at 1:20pm (AEST), there is just seven in the mix for this year’s $100,000 Listed Tyreel Stud ATC Cup (2000m).

Of those the race favourite in the latest ATC Cup odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying a short $1.60 for the win is Chris Waller’s in-form mare Telepathic.

Jumping from gate three with James McDonald booked for the ride on the five-year-old daughter of Mossman, she comes off a 1500m win at the track from a fortnight ago carrying 59.5kg and will be flying on the 54kg minimum this weekend.

She is followed in ATC Cup betting by the Anthony Cummings-trained son of Savabeel Best Case ($5) drawn one on her inside in barrier two and Bring Luck ($7.50) who shoots for back-to-back wins at the track following a win in the November Topaz (1900m) in the mud on November 14.

So can the odds-on favourite salute for the punters in this year’s ATC Cup result or is there an upset on the agenda from the likes of Tony McEvoy’s Adelaide raider Lucky Lucky Lucky ($9) who has winning form up to 2200m or Waller’s market mover Vilanova ($12 into $10) out to improve on a November Topaz third?

1st

#4 Telepathic ($1.60)

She is odds-on but deservedly so and even at the short price is hard to bet against based on her stellar lead-up form and the big drop back in weight to just 54kg here. She’ll get the run of the race from barrier three with the in-form McDonald in the saddle, the proven miler after her first win over further than 1600m here. The distance shouldn’t be an issue however as she was runner-up beaten only 0.4 lengths in the Group 3 Rough Habit over the distance in May last year, has run over 2400m in Group 1 company and finished third in the Group 3 Epona Stakes (1900m) in Sydney under a half-length away at this track in mid-March.

2nd

#7 Bring Luck ($7.50)

Sticking with the well-weighted last start winners and think another big run from this four-year-old son of Sebring is on the agenda after he flew home by a tidy two and a half lengths over 1900m here to win the November Topaz. That was in the wet, where he runs his best with excellent Heavy track form (6-2-2-1), so needs to handle firmer going here. That said, the distance and track suit so don’t rule out even on non-rain affected ground.

3rd

#3 Vilanova ($10)

Overpriced runner in the race has to be Waller’s November Topaz third placegetter whose three career runs have all been on Good tracks so the placing on a Heavy (9) here last time out was game. Winning strike rate isn’t good but from four Rosehill runs boasts three thirds and think that’s where the Commands five-year-old can finish up again this weekend.
