Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
One of two Team Snowden-trained runners in Saturday’s Starlight Stakes 2015, smart mare Dublin Lass has opened favourite to win the handicap sprint at Rosehill Gardens on Festival Stakes Day.
The second of three black-type highlights on the early Sydney Summer Racing Carnival meeting, this year’s $100,000 Listed The HQ of Insurance Starlight Stakes (1100m) features a final field of eight hopefuls and is set to run as Race 5 at 3:05pm (AEST).
Two of the acceptors are prepared by the father and son training duo of Peter & Paul Snowden including the current market mover and $2.60 top fancy through Ladbrokes.com.au Dublin Lass.
Kerrin McEvoy is booked to take over for Blake Shinn in the saddle of the O’Reilly mare who is second-up on the weekend coming in with a solid second-up record of a win and two seconds from three previous attempts so far.
First-up she ran a brave second to Pittsburgh Flyer at Flemington on Crown Oaks Day in the wet during the Melbourne Cup Carnival when beaten under a half-length in the Group 3 G.H. Mumm Stakes (1100m).
She gets the same distance this weekend, which she has seen twice before for two seconds, at a track she has won her only other run over.
Dublin Lass also gets the gun run from barrier one in the Starlight Stakes and drops back from 55.5kg to 54kg on the weekend making the Group 1 performed five-year-old a livewire chance to salute for the favourite backers.
Second favourite hot on her heels is the stablemate That’s A Good Idea ($3) who gives away the weight to his seven rivals as the deserved 60kg top weight.
Shinn comes off the mare Dublin Lass to ride this Flying Spur six-year-old who was last seen running second to Dothraki at Randwick on October 17 carrying 59kg in the Listed City Tattersalls Club Lighting (1100m).
The gelding has been kept fresh and has good form around much stronger company including his Listed Scone win from mid-May, the second to Ball Of Muscle in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben during the winter and a third behind Group 1 winner Terravista in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) first-up in early October.
What beats the Snowden duo? The bookmakers have two other runners under $10 for the win with Howmuchdoyouloveme ($5.50) and Fiftyshadesofgrey ($9.50) both coming off a last start win.
Con Karakatsanis’s Written Tycoon seven-year-old Howmuchdoyouloveme is drawn well in gate four on the weekend after success at the track and distance a fortnight back carrying 58kg.
He drops two kilos on the weekend and apprentice Samantha Clenton stays aboard the Group 2 winner.
Fiftyshadesofgrey also drops notably in weight, Marc Conners’ five-year-old daughter of the same sire as Howmuchdoyouloveme (Written Tycoon) having carted 58kg for her 1100m Rosehill win last weekend.
She is on the short seven-day back-up and steps up in class this weekend, however dropping to Saturday’s 54kg minimum aides her chances of adding to her nice record at the track / distance (7-2-2-0).
