One of three staying types for Sydney’s premier trainer Chris Waller in the 2015 ATC Cup field and betting markets for this weekend at Rosehill Gardens, Telepathic has opened odds-on favourite to win the Festival Stakes Day support act.
Kicking off the three stakes races on the nine-race program, Saturday’s $100,000 Listed Tyrell Stud ATC Cup (2000m) field features just seven runners set to face off in Race 2 at 1:20pm (AEST).
Three of those come from the Cox Plate winning stables of Waller including his five-year-old Mossman mare Telepathic paying a short $1.60 through Ladbrokes.com.au in the early ATC Cup odds.
Drawn in gate three with the in-form James McDonald booked to replace apprentice Rory Hutchings in the saddle, Telepathic shoots for back-to-back wins at the track after saluting over 1500m on a Heavy (9) Rosehill course on November 14.
She has had a suitable two weeks between runs then heading into her first black-type assignment on Saturday since she crossed dead last when 15th to Amanpour in the Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick back in April.
After carrying 59.5kg to victory a fortnight ago, Telepathic is set to relish the drop right back to the 54kg minimum in the ATC Cup run under quality handicap conditions.
Three rivals follow under $10 for the win including the Anthony Cummings-trained Best Case ($4.80) after his second win at his eighth Rosehill run.
The five-year-old Savabeel gelding hasn’t won a race since November last year giving him over a year between turf triumphs, but ran fourth in the November Topaz over 1900m here last start.
He has been out over 2000m twice before for two third place finishes and so the step up in distance should suit on the weekend.
The other two single figure fancies are Bring Luck ($7) and Lucky Lucky Lucky ($8.50) drawn in barriers five and seven respectively.
Amanda Turner & Mauro Poletti prepare progressive Sebring four-year-old Bring Luck who beat home a good field of rivals on a Heavy (9) track here in the November Topaz by a minimum 2.5 lengths last time out.
That was the gelding’s first run at Rosehill and on Saturday he will be out to retain his undefeated record at the track with jockey Peter Wells retaining the ride on 54kg.
Lucky Lucky Lucky meanwhile has the outside alley with Jason Collett staying in the saddle of Tony McEvoy’s Adelaide raider.
The Lucky Owners six-year-old comes off a fifth to Bring Luck in the November Topaz where the Heavy track conditions didn’t suit and saw him beaten nearly 13 lengths.
With a firmer track set for the rematch, the gelding can improve and close the gap with winning form up to 2200m and a solid 2000m record of a win and a second from three starts over the distance.
Waller’s two other runners meanwhile are Vilanova ($12) to be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy on the back of a third in the November Topaz and the roughie market mover Instrumentalist ($51 into $41) who gives the weight away as the 58kg top weight.
