Secret Saga Tops 2015 Mode Plate Field

Tony Gollan’s last start winner at the track Secret Saga headlines a full field of three-year-old fillies facing off in the Mode Plate 2015 that is the major support act at Doomben Racecourse for George Moore Stakes Day on Saturday.

Due to jump as Doomben Race 6 at 3:37pm (local time), this year’s $100,000 Listed Zetta 1 Mode Plate (1200m) has attracted 16 final acceptors with Real Saga filly Secret Saga to wear the number one saddlecloth with veteran hoop Jim Byrne aboard.

Byrne retains his association with Secret Saga having guided her to victory over 1050m at the track a fortnight ago when the filly jumped from barrier one of six carrying 58kg.

She drops in weight to 56.5kg under the set weights conditions of Saturday’s showdown but has suffered a blow with a wide barrier 13 drawn in the big field.

Gollan, who has five runners including Group 1 winner Temple Of Boom engaged for Saturday’s Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) at the meeting, has also accepted for Suite Mover in the Mode Plate.

A lightly-raced daughter of Jet Spur, she has just her third career start on Saturday and has drawn far better with gate three for her Doomben debut.

Her opening two career runs have both been at Ipswich from the inside alley with Tegan Harrison in the saddle, Harrison retaining her association with the up-and-comer who broke her maiden status over 1100m on November 11.

The other last start winners in the mix along with Gollan’s duo are The Wanted Club out wide in 14, Steve Tregea’s Kim Noir who won on debut last time out at Toowoomba and the Noel Doyle-trained Nilette.

Jumping from gate nine this weekend, Snitzel filly Nilette won her first race at her fifth start just last Saturday at the Gold Coast by a narrow margin and is out to go back-to-back this weekend.

Doyle has also accepted for St Remy (barrier 11) who comes off back-to-back thirds, the daughter of Star Witness last seen crossing just 0.3 lengths off the winner Don’t Deny Us at home on the Gold Coast over 1200m a fortnight ago.

Also with dual hopefuls on the weekend is the Sunshine Coast’s Stuart Kendrick with Typing who gets the run of the race from barrier one and Banda Spice drawn just one wider in gate two with Damian Browne booked for the ride.

Highly-rated Sebring filly Typing hasn’t run since a 10th to Press Statement in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival back in early June.

A stakes winner at Toowoomba, she is down in both class and distance for her resuming run this weekend and is drawn for a big effort fresh.

Stablemate Banda Spice meanwhile was last seen running third behind In His Stride over 1200m at Doomben on November 7 defeated only a quarter-length in the three-year-olds’ handicap.

Also high up the handicap ratings in the race are Barry Baldwin’s Group 2 performed Shadow Lawn with the outside alley to overcome and the Matthew Dunn-trained Madotti from Murwillumbah in New South Wales who comes off a third over 1100m here from October 24.

Another last start placegetter in good form ahead of the Listed test this weekend is Bradley Smith’s Deagon-trained Ferocity grey La Dolce Vita who ran second to Secret Saga here last time out.

She has won three of her five starts to date and has finished out of the money just once, and is also drawn a treat in gate four for her next clash with likely favourite Secret Saga.
