Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained That’s A Good Idea is the highest-rated nomination taken for the black-type Sydney feature at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday, the Starlight Stakes 2015.
Run under quality handicap conditions, this year’s $100,000 Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) attracted a total of 16 sprinters including Flying Spur six-year-old That’s A Good Idea.
The 30-start gelding is a stakes winner at Scone from May this year and was runner-up to Ball Of Muscle in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben during the Winter Carnival.
Third first-up this campaign at Randwick behind Group 1 winning star Terravista in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m), his last start was a second to Dothraki in a Listed sprint over the same 1100m distance he is over on the weekend from October 17.
Two trials since produced two seconds including at Warwick Farm on November 19 meaning That’s A Good Idea looks fit and ready to fire on Saturday shooting for his second win at his sixth Rosehill run.
Team Snowden have also nominated for in-form O’Reilly mare Dublin Lass, the five-year-old looking to continue a good second-up record (3-1-2-0) after her second first-up on November 5 at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
On Crown Oaks Day the Group 1 performed mare was narrow runner-up on a Heavy (9) course behind Pittsburgh Flyer in the Group 3 G.H. Mumm Stakes (1100m), a run she will be looking to go one better than in her second start at Rosehill where she won over 1300m in November last year.
Last year’s Starlight Stakes winner was the Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained Our Boy Malachi who came off a first-up win over the same track and distance.
There are four last start winners nominated for the sprint feature this year including the Danny O’Brien-trained Speed ‘N’ Power four-year-old Bullpit who took out a Benchmark85 over 1100m at Canterbury on November 7.
Also coming off a win are Marc Conners’ grey mare Fiftyshadesofgrey who won at Rosehill just last Saturday, the Con Karakatsanis-trained Group 2 winner Howmuchdoyouloveme and the Chris Waller-trained Religify who all won at the track and distance last time out.
Last year’s winning stable Hawkes Racing meanwhile have a shot at back-to-back Starlight Stakes wins this year with the veteran of the field, eight-year-old Agent who needs to improve on his dead last when eighth behind Religify on October 31 in a Benchmark 93.
First-up if accepted into the field on the weekend will be Gai Waterhouse’s classy Stratum mare Echo Gal, the four-year-old last seen crossing second to Catkins at the track in early September in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m).
Echo Gal ran a good Randwick trial on November 16 over 740m when a long neck second to Lucky Fish and has a strong first-up record of two wins and a second from five previous resuming runs.
Other notable hopes include Peter Moody’s last start third in the Listed Dilmah Earl Grey Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Oaks Day Office Bearer and Brett Cavanough’s smart five-year-old The Monstar also coming out of a Cup Carnival placing when third to Sea Lord in the Listed MSS Security Stakes (1200m) on Melbourne Cup Day.
