Sheidel Salutes for Punters in Jungle Mist Classic

David Harrison’s flying mare Sheidel saluted for the punters in the first black-type on the Railway Stakes Day card at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday winning the 2015 Jungle Mist Classic as the odds-on favourite in record time.

Backing up from a fourth behind Rock Magic in the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) at the same track at the start of the month, the four-year-old daughter of Holy Roman Emperor jumped at a short $1.55 in this year’s $100,000 Jungle Mist Classic (1200m).

A nice ride from her regular hoop Patrick Carbery saw Sheidel enjoy a half-length victory over Adam Durrant’s progressive daughter of More Than Ready Ideal Image ($5) in a race record time of 1.09.03.

The Simon Miller-trained I Am Invincible four-year-old Fuld’s Bet ($9) finished off the trifecta a further length back for third.

It was an eye-catching run from the third placed Fuld’s Bet who showed nice improvement off two previous eighth placed runs at the track this time in wearing blinkers on Saturday.

She finished in the money a half-length ahead of the fourth-placed Hashtag ($11) while last year’s fourth placegetter and stablemate to Sheidel, Zonte ($31), could only manage to run fifth this year behind her far better fancied stablemate.

The Jungle Mist Classic was Sheidel’s ninth career win at start number nine, but was surprisingly her maiden black-type success and took her earnings up to a tidy $520,500 in prize money.

She now boasts an outstanding Ascot record of seven wins from eight starts at Perth’s premier track and is also undefeated over the 1200m with three wins from as many runs over the distance.

Following on from Super Saturday’s opening two Perth races, an on-pace run proved successful in the Jungle Mist with Sheidel up front and leading throughout, never looking in danger of losing.

Harrison said post-win the next likely target for his Jungle Mist Classic winner would be the $100,000 Listed Crawford Stakes (1000m) back at the track on Kingston Town Classic Day, December 5.

“She’s a very fast filly, she won pretty softly in the end,” he said according to Perth Racing.

“At this stage, I am probably thinking of the Crawford over 1000 metres.

“We will have a talk to the owners, we could stretch her to the 1400 of the Jungle Dawn.”

Run on the same day as the Crawford, the $100,000 Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) runs over 400m further and was won last Perth Summer Racing Carnival by the Adam Durrant-trained Real Charm.
