Let It Slip Scores Placid Ark Stakes Win

The Daniel Pearce-trained filly Let It Slip scored her maiden stakes win on Saturday at Ascot Racecourse taking out the 2015 Placid Ark Stakes in an upset on Railway Stakes Day.

Taking her record up to two wins from six starts, the three-year-old daughter of Not A Single Doubt ran in her black-type debut on the weekend in the $100,000 Listed Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) against a field of 11 fellow three-year-olds.

Let It Slip ($13) came off a last start third behind Celebrity Dream over the same track and distance earlier in the month, improving with jockey Peter Hall in the saddle for the first time for her length victory over the Brian Kersley-trained Yoshi Noxious ($14).

A last start winner over the 1200m at Ascot, Fath gelding Yoshi Noxious was again ridden by Lucy Warwick who also rode the runner-up in the previous race when Sireeze crossed second to 2015 Kingston Town Classic-bound Neverland in the Listed Carbine Club of WA Stakes (1400m).

Third in the Placid Ark Stakes this Perth Summer Racing Carnival went to the David Harrison-trained Mystic Maid ($10) who improved on a last start seventh the Saturday before behind Delicate Miss over 1000m.

The Lark Hill-based Pearce also prepared fourth past the post, Viscount gelding Pushin’ Shapes who jumped at $31.

Pearce also trained fourth placegetter in the $100,000 Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) earlier on the card with Hashtag crossing two lengths off the winning odds-on favourite Sheidel ($1.55).

Odds-on favourite in the Placid Ark was the eventual winner’s last start conqueror, the Grant Williams-trained Celebrity Dream ($1.95) who could only manage to finish seven lengths away 11th beating home just one other runner.

A red hot pace in the race saw Hall let Let It Slip settle just off the speed, along with Celebrity Dream, but while Hall’s ride came home well late the beaten odds-on favourite couldn’t get a clear run in the straight and was badly checked during her luckless run home.

Last year’s Placid Ark Stakes winner Liberty’s Gem backed-up to win the $150,000 Group 2 Lee Steere Classic (1400m) next start, a Kingston Town Classic Day race back at Ascot this year on December 5 that could also be on the agenda for Let It Slip.

“She’s getting better. She’s learning as she goes,” Pearce said of Let It Slip post-win on Saturday.

“She’s a tiny little filly but she’s tough as nails.”
