A trio of Chris Waller-trained horses headline a small list of early entries for Saturday’s ATC Cup 2015 at Rosehill Gardens on Festival Stakes Day.
Three black-type features run in Sydney this Saturday including the $100,000 Listed ATC Cup (2000m) where just eight nominations sees entries extended until 11am (AEST) on Tuesday.
Of the original entries three represent the season’s best trainer Waller including his New Zealand import Telepathic, the five-year-old Mossman mare also one of four nominations for the stable in the $150,000 Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) on the card this Saturday.
A winner of five of her 19 starts to date, Telepathic was last seen taking out a 1500m Rosehill race in the wet on a Heavy track on November 14 and will be back in black-type company for the first time since a failed bid when last (15th) behind Amanpour in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick back in April.
Waller’s other two possible ATC Cup runners this season are seven-year-old European import Instrumentalist and Vilanova.
Instrumentalist is out to atone for a string of disappointing runs including his eighth to Zanbagh in a 1350m handicap at the track a fortnight back, and is looking to recover the form that saw him win in the Listed Mornington Cup (2400m) over the mile and a half back in February last year.
Five-year-old Commands gelding Vilanova meanwhile comes off a good third over 1900m at Rosehill behind Bring Luck on November 14 and has run third from four previous runs at the track.
The same horse that beat Vilanova home to win the November Topaz that day, the Amanda Turner and Mauro Poletti-trained Bring Luck is also nominated for a Festival Stakes rematch this weekend.
A four-year-old son of Sebring, Bring Luck posted his third career win at start number 18 by a tidy two and a half lengths and is a known wet-track performer with good Heavy course form (6-2-2-1).
Also coming out of the November Topaz into a Festival Stakes run is the Anthony Cummings-trained Savabeel gelding Best Case, the fourth-placed five-year-old having run third in both his previous runs over the 2000m he is over on Saturday.
Rounding out the original entries are Wayne Carroll’s Mossman eight-year-old Grand Allowance who comes off a fourth in the Snake Gully Cup (1400m) and the Tony McEvoy-trained Adelaide raider Lucky Lucky Lucky who ran fifth on the November Topaz beaten nearly 13 lengths.
