100th Win for Warwick in Tattersall’s Cup 2015

Flying young apprentice hoop Lucy Warwick made it a century of winners at Ascot Racecourse on Railway Stakes Day on the weekend capping off the meeting with success aboard Dubai Escapade in the 2015 Tattersall’s Cup.

The 17-year-old Perth-based jockey rode back-to-back runners-up earlier on the card aboard Sireeze in the $100,000 Listed Carbine Club of W.A. Stakes (1400m) won by Kingston Town Classic hopeful Neverland and Yoshi Noxious in the $100,000 Listed Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) won in an upset by Let It Slip.

She had to wait until the last race on the bumper nine-event program to celebrate a win however when holding on narrowly to guide Dubai Escapade ($11) to victory in the $100,000 Listed Tattersall’s Cup (2100m).

Markets for the handicap clash were led by the Lou Luciani-trained Blackfriars seven-year-old and recent Northam Cup winner Young Lionel ($4.80).

The veteran stayer though could only manage to cross third in a blanket finish when beaten just a half-length by Warwick’s mount, the Justin Warwick-trained Dubai Escapade ($11) who held a tight 0.15 length winning margin over the Arthur Mortimer-prepared Kirov Boy ($51).

Adding massive value to the winning Tattersall’s Cup quinella, six-year-old Kirov Boy jumped at juicy odds after two dead last runs when 10th in both the Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1420m) on October 21 and the Listed Ascot Gold Cup (1800m) on November 7.

Dubai Destination six-year-old Dubai Escapade also came off an unplaced run last time out when seventh, albeit beating only 1.25 lengths in the Listed Kalgoorlie Cup (2300m) back on September 27.

Running well fresh on the weekend he thrived over the distance at his 22nd Ascot start, posting his third win at the track and his first turf triumph since a 2100m win at Belmont back in early July.

Warwick was aboard for that win and all but one of his runs since, and the Tattersall’s Cup result means she is only five city winners short of outriding her apprentice claim.

“It’s probably something I hoped for,” Warwick said of her 100 winners speaking to The West Australian after her win in the card closer on Saturday.

“I got on the right horses and got the right opportunities from owners.”

Myalup-based trainer Warwick could consider a back-up run for Dubai Escapade on December 5 at Ascot on Kingston Town Classic Day in the $100,000 Listed G.A. Towton Cup (2200m).
