Man Booker Records Narrow WA Guineas Win

Man Booker produced the best performance of his racing career to record an upset win in the 2015 Western Australian Guineas at Ascot this afternoon.

Man Booker started his racing career with three straight wins as a two-year-old and he started his summer preparation with a fourth place finish at Belmont Park on October 3 before he performed well without winning in the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on October 21 and the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) at the same venue on November 7.

The fillies were expected to dominate the Western Australian Guineas and it was Spirit Bird that looked like the winner at the top of the straight, but jockey Jerry Noske timed her run beautifully on Man Booker and he was too strong in the final stages.

Noske has stamped herself as one of the most talented young jockeys in Western Australian in the last 12 months and she was clearly delighted to have recorded a feature race on a horse that she has ridden in each of his career starts.

“That was awesome,” Noske said.

“It is great to get the opportunities now.

“I thought that I would be a lot closer, but he didn’t want to be and I just kept him happy.

“He just towed me to the line and it is good when you are on a fast run.

“I have ridden him since it was his first time in and it helps a lot.”

Trainer Daniel Morton said after the race that he was very happy with the condition of Man Booker ahead of the 2015 Western Australian Guineas and he was quick to pay credit to the outstanding ride of Noske.

“That was a thrill,” Morton said.

“Jerry in big moments she has just ridden perfect races for me time and time again and I was happy to have her on.

“I was wrapped with mine and I thought they were both over the odds and I couldn’t be happier with their preps coming into the race.

“They are tough races and they are bloody hard to win, but I was happy with them coming in.

“He has been a really nice horse all the way through and he is doing it at the highest level now.”
