Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
One of the key support races on the Railway Stakes Day line-up in Perth on Saturday is the WA Guineas 2015 for three-year-olds, betting odds and tips for the mile clash found below.
Running as Ascot Race 6 at 3:05pm (WA time), this year’s $500,000 Group 2 Sky Racing W.A. Guineas (1600m) features a capacity field of 16 starters plus the Neville Parnham-trained emergency Secret Doubt.
Four of the runners are under $10 for the win in the latest WA Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, the favourite of which is the widely-drawn Arcadia Dream ($3.80) in gate 15 with Perth’s premier hoop William Pike in the saddle.
The Grant Williams-trained Domesday filly is after her first win since an early October success in non-black type company, but has run top three in her latest three runs all in better class.
Her latest start was a second when beaten a length by Perfect Reflection in the Group 3 W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) on November 14, so she is on the short seven day back-up into the Guineas taking on the boys.
The next best in WA Guineas betting is He’s Our Rokkii ($5) also in double digits with gate 12 for jockey Damian Lane who continues his association aboard the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Kiwi import.
After his maiden run down under, the Roc De Cambes gelding was last seen racing at Flemington on Derby Day when fourth in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) over the mile.
Also at single figures for the win are the Fred Kersley-trained Burgess Queen Stakes winner Blackwood ($6) who comes off a WA Champion Fillies third from last Saturday and Jason Pateman’s Burgess Queen runner-up last time out Showy Chloe ($7).
Just outside the top fancies are a number of livewire chances at juicer prices for an upset including Daniel Morton’s gelding Man Booker ($10) who ran second in the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) on November 7 and market mover Universal Law ($15 into $11) out to improve on a sixth in that same lead-up for the boys.
See below for our insider WA Guineas tips so you can sort the genuine contenders from the pretenders before heading to Ladbrokes.com.au to place your bets!
#13 Showy Chloe ($7)
Think the fillies have it over the boys in the Guineas again this year and of the girls lining up like the chances of an improved run from a fresh Showy Chloe who is drawn to win from barrier five with Jarrad Noske retaining the ride. She carried 58kg last time out for a solid second in the Burgess Queen (1400m) at the end of last month and drops to 54.5kg on the weekend where she looks for her first win since the Group 3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) in April. She missed last week’s run, but fresh could be an advantage for her.
#1 London Line ($14)
Of the boys the form of London Line threatens to stack-up here and barrier seven looks a gun draw for Morton’s flying Blackfriars gelding who shoots for his third straight win at the track. He’s yet to see a mile but has winning form over 1500m here two back and comes off the Fairetha Stakes win from November 7. With Jason Browne staying on and the good draw, he’s every chance to give the fillies a run for their money.
#15 Arcadia Dream ($3.80)
She’s the deserving favourite but has a pretty nasty barrier to overcome. Still, Pike aboard is a big plus and her lead-up runs have all been solid suggesting the step up in distance will suit. She is yet to win over further than 1200m though so needs to prove herself at the mile after her second over the distance last Saturday. On the short back-up but is fit so if she handles the short turnaround can go onto good things.
