A smart field of three-year-old sprinters take to the Ascot track in Perth on the weekend on Railway Stakes Day for the Placid Ark Stakes 2015, betting tips and the latest odds found below.
Set to run as Ascot Race 5 at 2:24pm (WA time), this year’s $100,000 Listed G1X.Com.Au Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) features a dozen hopefuls led in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au by the undefeated Celebrity Dream.
Paying $2 for the win in the latest Placid Ark Stakes markets, the Grant Williams-trained Thorn Park filly is nearing odds-on territory with the bookies tipping her to retain her unbeaten record with a third win from as many starts on Saturday.
She is up to black-type company for the first time after wins at Bunbury in October and at Ascot on November 7 over 1200m, ridden by Perth’s number one jockey William Pike both times.
Pike sticks with the progressive filly for her stakes’ debut on Saturday where she is set to get a gun run from gate two carrying 54kg at set weights plus penalties.
Just one other three-year-old is paying single figures in Placid Ark Stakes betting for the win with Puteri Jewel ($5) jumping from barrier four with visiting interstate and internationally-performed hoop Craig Williams in the saddle.
Local horseman Simon Miller trains the daughter of Demerit who cones off a second to Saturday’s top fancy Celebrity Dream at the track and distance a fortnight ago when beaten half a length in her fifth career run.
Out for the Placid Ark Stakes upset at more generous odds are the likes of the rails-drawn Remember Berlin ($10) having just his third career start, Dan Morton’s son of Starcraft Jingtang ($11) drawn the opposite end of the field in gate 11 for jockey Jason Brown to overcome and the early market mover Mystic Maid ($14 into $12).

#10 Celebrity Dream ($2)
Tipping a day for the favourites to salute including in this with Celebrity Dream after her third win from as many starts. She handled Ascot and the 1200m last time out in similar company and with gun hoop Pike staying on, she will be hard to beat again here. Barrier two gives her the run of the race, the conditions suit and by the end of the race she should be a black-type winner.
#6 Delicate Miss ($15)
Value in another filly here, David Harrison’s daughter of My Atacanta having her ninth career run. She’s a dual winner at the track including over 1000m last time out, but is yet to win over further than that. She has had two 1200m runs, including in the Listed Belgravia Stakes in October, and should be fit enough to improve on that from a midfield draw dropping from 56kg to 54.5kg here.
#5 Remember Berlin ($10)
This Zizou gelding has won one from two to date breaking his maiden status at the start of the month in his first look at Ascot where he returns on the weekend. Did it from gate one with Peter Knuckey in the saddle on November 3 and should get another good run from the inside alley with the same hoop in the saddle this time round. Drops a kilo to 55kg and if the frontrunners are winning, he is in the finish without a doubt.
