Winterbottom Stakes 2015: Luck In Running Key For Fast ‘N’ Rocking

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig is thrilled with the condition of Fast ‘N’ Rocking ahead of the 2015 Winterbottom Stakes, but he believes that luck in running will play a key role in the Group 1 event at Ascot on Saturday.

Fast ‘N’ Rocking returned to the races with a fast-fast finishing fifth behind Setinum in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 15 and he produced a similar performance when fifth behind Fell Swoop in the Listed The Cup Club Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 5.

The son of Fastnet Rock was far from disgraced when seventh behind Stratum Star in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on September 26 and he returned to winning form with a dominant victory in the Listed Caulfield Village Handicap (1200m) at Caulfield on October 14.

Fast ‘N’ Rocking was well-backed in the lead-up to the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 23 and he proved that he was capable of matching it with the best sprinters when he finished fourth behind Chautauqua, Srikandi and Rebel Dane.

The Lindsay Park team opted to skip the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington on November 6 in order to save him for the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday and Dabernig told Racing Ahead that he is confident that the five-year-old will be in the finish if he receives luck at the right time of the race.

“Western Australian sprinters you’ve always got to respect, they’re normally not easy to beat on their home turf,” Dabernig told Racing.com’s Racing Ahead.

“A horse like Fast ‘n’ Rocking has done plenty of travelling over his career, so he’s a horse that can travel and perform.

“He’s racing style he gets back and runs on, so he does need luck in the race to pan out right for him, but he’s in great order and you wouldn’t get a horse looking any better.

“He’s in great nick heading into Saturday.”

The 2015 Winterbottom Stakes field will be released tomorrow and Fast ‘N’ Rocking is set to take on the likes of Buffering, Magnifisio, Lucky Street, Watermans Bay, Sheidel, Rock Magic, Shining Knight and Silverstream.
