Capacity 2015 Summoned Stakes Field Released

A full field of mares faces off in the Summoned Stakes 2015 in the card closer at Sandown Hillside on Zipping Classic Day this weekend in Melbourne.

Due to bring the action of the latest Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival meeting to a close as Sandown Race 9 at 5:55pm (AEST), this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Le Pine Funerals Summoned Stakes (1500m) features a capacity line-up of 16 starters plus four emergencies.

The highest-rated of the hopefuls is the widely-drawn Gerald Ryan-trained Sydney visitor Solicit in barrier 14, into 13 if the emergencies fail to gain a run.

Kerrin McEvoy has the ride on the Group 1 placed daughter of Street Cry, the five-year-old looking for her first win since the Group 3 Hawkesbury Crown (1300m) back in early May.

Runner-up to La Passe in a big first-up run in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) on Caulfield Cup Day, Solicit is out to improve on her eighth to Politeness in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on Derby Day when she drops back in class and distance this weekend.

Also drawn wide for the Summoned Stakes on the all-black type Sandown program is the Peter Moody-trained Anfitriona in 13 as the Host five-year-old shoots for back-to-back wins after success over the Moonee Valley mile on October 30.

Anfitriona has winning form at Sandown Hillside from July last year so is shooting for another win at the track on Saturday from the double digit gate.

Another last start winner confirmed for the set weights plus penalties clash is the Darren Weir-trained Scarlett Billows in gate 10.

The Street Boss five-year-old was fifth two back in the Tristarc Stakes before putting in a big effort to post a two and a half-length victory over Wawail in Flemington’s Group 3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m) on Melbourne Cup Day.

Craig Williams had the mount that day but is replaced by Melbourne Cup winning female hoop Michelle Payne this weekend.

Also coming off nice lead-up runs are Symon Wilde’s last start Ararat winner Tycoon Tara with the inside gate on Saturday, the Chris Waller-trained Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes third placed seven-year-old She’s Clean with Glen Boss aboard and stablemate Ballet Suite.

Waller’s other runner has a nasty barrier 18, into 15, draw to overcome on the weekend as she looks to improve on a fourth behind Coronation Shallan in the Group 3 Teiso Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day last month.

Teiso Stakes winning Strategic six-year-old Coronation Shallan is also accepted for a Summoned Stakes rematch at Sandown on the back of a seventh behind Turn Me Loose in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) only last weekend.

Other notable hopes in the line-up include Precious Gem who ran second over 1700m at Flemington on Cup Day and the John Sadler-trained Japhils.

A four-year-old daughter of Choisir, Japhils ran on Crown Oaks Day in the wet at Flemington and was only 1.2 lengths away fifth to Pittsburgh Flyer in the Group 3 G.H. Mumm Stakes (1100m).

She did it tough from barrier 17 of 18 that day and should have a better run from gate four with Stephen Baster replacing Williams in the saddle.
