2015 RJ Peters Stakes Field Features Battle Hero

Grant Williams’ in-form four-year-old Battle Hero is racing for a Railway Stakes assignment next weekend when he runs in this Saturday’s RJ Peter Stakes 2015 at Ascot Racecourse.

One of two Group features on the Perth program on the weekend, this year’s $150,000 Group 3 David Grays Aglink R.J. Peters Stakes (1500m) has attracted a final field of just nine despite boasting a 30-starter capacity.

Due to run as Ascot Race 7 at 4:40pm (WA time), the handicap clash features some nice types including a few that are nominated for a quick back-up into the $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) over the mile Saturday week on November 21.

A $21 hope in the current all-in Railway Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is Stratum gelding Battle Hero who has won six of his nine starts to date.

He has a strong Ascot record of two wins and a second from four runs at the track, but lines-up at Perth’s premier course for the first time this campaign on the weekend.

Last start he finished a half-length second to Young Lionel in the Listed Northam Cup (1600m) and so he drops back 100m and two kilos in the weights with 54.5kg and William Pike aboard this weekend.

Another $21 chance in the futures Railway Stakes betting markets running the RJ Peters this Perth Summer Racing Carnival is the Daniel Morton-trained Hazzabeel in gate four on the weekend with apprentice Lucy Warwick retaining the ride.

She was aboard the Zabeel five-year-old for his last start third behind Real Love in the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on October 31, Hazzabeel shooting for his sixth win at start number 10.

Asian Beau Stakes runner-up My Sister Lil is another five-year-old backing up in Saturday’s RJ Peters Stakes, the Ross Price-trained Snitzel mare beaten under a length and boasting previous winning form up to 1800m.

The inside alley on Saturday belongs to fellow mare Goldbo, the six-year-old from Capel having her fourth start at Ascot where she has just the one second place finish that occurred last start on November 3 with 57kg on her back.

She drops to 54.5kg this weekend, a weight advantage that will help her in this notable class rise.

Top local trainer Fred Kersley has two runners with his recent Boulder Cup winning nine-year-old veteran stayer Ask Me Nicely and Operational who hasn’t won a race since June last year.

Returning to racing in the RJ Peters is the Neville Parnham-trained High Chaparral eight-year-old Fulgur who is yet to run at Ascot.

The former Melbourne-trained gelding debuts in Perth on the weekend on the back of a Belmont trial from the start of the week, Steven Parnham booked for the ride in barrier six.

Also first-up on the weekend is Adam Durrant’s Haradasun five-year-old Respondent whose last start was a seventh in the Group 3 Strickland Stakes (2000m) at Belmont back in late June.

Lark Hill horseman Durrant also saddles-up the 59kg top weight Tower Of Lonhro, the seven-year-old out to improve on a seventh in the Asian Beau Stakes before which he was third in both the Hyperion and Strickland Stakes in the winter.
