Sandown Stakes 2015 Confirmed for Charmed Harmony

After being dually nominated across the Zipping Classic Day card at Sandown on Saturday, Charmed Harmony will be accepted for the 2015 Sandown Stakes according to Caulfield horseman John Sadler.

Sadler threw in a nomination for his Hussonet six-year-old in both the weight-for-age $150,000 Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m) as well as the $150,000 Group 3 Sandown Stakes (1500m) run over 200m further at handicaps.

The horse gets in a kilo lighter in the Sandown Stakes with 58kg, which is the preferred option according to Sadler who would love to see the gelding return to winning form.

Yet to race at Sandown Hillside, Charmed Harmony won back-to-back races at Flemington over 1400m in the winter before returning to win two on the trot again in Melbourne over the same distance under handicap conditions in non-black type company.

That promising form saw Sadler throw him in the deep end with a Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) run at Caulfield in late September for his Group race debut.

Charmed Harmony was far from disgraced in a tight finish crossing only one and a quarter lengths off the winner Stratum Star when fifth with 54.5kg on his back.

He went up to 56.5kg last time out on Victoria Derby Day in the Group 3 Chatham Stakes (1400m) running fourth to Disposition in a run Sadler hopes he can atone for on the weekend in the Sandown Stakes.

After Saturday Charmed Harmony will be turned out for a deserving stint in the paddock after rapidly going up in grade this campaign.

“Nearly all his runs have been really good,” Sadler Racing Ahead on RSN.

“He didn’t get any peace at all in that race [Chatham Stakes] at Flemington.

“I think he was entitled to put up the white flag at the 200m, and he really battled it out to run fourth.

“Really good effort, and he’s shown me no signs of having had enough, so I thought we’d have one more shot at the stumps this weekend.”

Charmed Harmony has performed consistently despite having had five different jockeys jump aboard for his five most recent runs, the latest on October 31 being New Zealand’s Opie Bosson.

This weekend Glen Boss has the mount riding the horse for the third time, but the first since a win at Bendigo back in May last year.

Boss has an undefeated record on the runner having also guided Charmed Harmony to victory at Geelong on the Synthetic track in June of 2013.

Sandown Stakes weights are led by seven-year-old Lidari (59kg) for Melbourne Cup winning trainer Darren Weir, the horse not having run since a 10th to Spillway in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) back in mid-March.

Other Zipping Classic Day entries for Sadler include last start Cranbourne Cup winner Digitalism for the $150,000 Group 3 Eclipse Stakes (1800m) and his Choisir mare Japhils who runs in the mares’ only $150,000 Group 3 Summoned Stakes (1500m).
