Most Successful Melbourne Cup Saddlecloths

You can do the 2015 Melbourne Cup form all day and still be disappointed when a roughie takes out the ‘race that stops a nation’, so why not try tipping the Melbourne Cup winner via a different method like the most successful saddlecloths in the classic?

There are 24 horses lining-up in Flemington Race 7 at 3:00pm (AEST) this afternoon in the $6.2 million Group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m), and with two miles to run and so many formlines to follow into the race it is a tough job for punters today.

The bookies say the Japanese-trained Fame Game, coming off a luckless sixth in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) when caught up for a run until the final 150m when he flashed home behind Mongolian Khan, but he has eased in betting out to $5.

The only other single-figure chance in the latest Melbourne Cup odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, who have a brand new Ford 4×4 Ranger worth over $57,000 to give to one lucky Melbourne Cup punter this spring, is the Ed Dunlop-trained Trip To Paris.

He also comes out of the Caulfield Cup, and the last Caulfield Cup runner-up to back-up directly into the Melbourne Cup and win was Makybe Diva for her second in 2004.

Ed Dunlop trains the Ascot Gold Cup winner and shoots for his first ‘Loving Trophy’ after running second three times in the past four years with Red Cadeaux.

That’s what the bookies are saying, but what about the Melbourne Cup saddlecloth statistics?
