Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Gerald Ryan is thrilled with the condition of Solicit ahead of her Spring Carnival grand final on Derby Day, and is confident the talented mare is a leading chance to be crowned the 2015 Myer Classic winner.
Solicit has been a strong and consistent performer since first debuting competitively for Greg Eurell in early 2013; passing through the stables of Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra before arriving in Ryan’s care prior to the recent Autumn Carnival; posting five wins and a further eight minors through 24 appearances along the way.
Trialling well in the lead-up to her racing return this time, Solicit will carry exceptional form into the 2015 Myer Classic and plenty improvement after placing second in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) first-up at Caulfield a fortnight ago.
Ryan conceded the Street Cry mare undoubtedly faces her biggest task to date in the 2015 Myer Classic but believe she is a far-better horse this season and sees no reason she can’t break through for a maiden win at the highest level on Saturday.
“She’s gone well after Queensland, trialled well and has probably ran up to it,” Ryan told Racing Ahead.
“This is a little bit harder on Saturday but when they were walking around in the mounting yard she looked like she was the only horse that was going to improve from it, and I think she has.
“She’s done well, stayed at Caulfield for the last fortnight and she looks good.
“She will roll forward and I can picture her being in the first three. It will just be a matter of if they want to go or don’t want to go.
“She’ll put herself there and her Flemington form previously has been quite good. She’ll give herself every chance.
“I think she’s going better now than what she was in autumn when I got her. I’m confident she’ll run well.”
Solicit posted several typically good results in her final preparation for Ellerton and Zahra last spring; placing second in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) and fourth in the Myer Classic most notably.
Debuting for Ryan fourth in the Group 3 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) on February 28th, Solicit failed to beat a single runner home in the Group 3 Aspiration Quality (1600m) in her next start but responded in the best way possible when taking out the Group 3 Darley Crown (1300m) before placing second in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) in Brisbane most notably.
