Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The John O’Shea-trained Holler wears the number one saddlecloth in the field for Saturday’s Telstra Phonewords Stakes 2015, the Cox Plate Day support act formerly known as the Red Anchor Stakes.
A final field of 11 three-year-old sprinters face off in Moonee Valley Race 4 on the weekend when the $150,000 Group 3 Telstra Phonewords Stakes (1200m) jumps at 2:25pm (AEST).
The set weights plus penalties clash is one of the first five races on the program that features in the exclusive promo at Ladbrokes.com.au – an Extra 50% on your very first Fixed Odds winner in Races 1 – 5 on Cox Plate Day!
Jumping from barrier six with the in-form James McDonald in the saddle, Commands colt Holler comes off back-to-back seconds including in the Listed Gothic Stakes (1400m) only last Saturday on Caulfield Cup Day.
He is out to break a winning drought going back to his successful debut in Sydney in January and has his first start at Moonee Valley in the Telstra Phonewords Stakes.
O’Shea and the Godolphin stable will also be represented in the race by the consistent New Approach gelding Demonstrate drawn nicely in barrier three with international hoop James Doyle booked for the ride.
Doyle was a late call-up to travel down under and take the mount on one of two O’Shea-trained hopes in Saturday’s $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m), jumping aboard $19 hope at Ladbrokes.com.au – home of Best Tote or SP + 20% on all Cox Plate Day races – Complacent.
Demonstrate has good form at Moonee Valley (2-1-1-0) and over the distance (4-1-1-1), but hasn’t had a start since a third to Gold Symphony in the Group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes (1200m) in late August.
Also coming off a nice lead-up run into the Telstra Phonewords Stakes this season is the Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained Mawahibb to be ridden from a wider gate nine draw by Hugh Bowman.
The Magic Albert colt has had two runs for a win and a second at Moonee Valley and is yet to finish worse than second in his three runs over 1200m to date.
He has had just the one black-type assignment however back in January when fourth behind subsequent Golden Slipper winner Vancouver in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m), with his latest start being a second to Keen Array over this track and distance from October 2.
Dropping right back in class for this Cox Plate Day support race is the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained More Than Ready colt More Than Most.
He was last seen running 12th when beaten seven lengths by Press Statement in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) over the mile a fortnight ago and should be better placed in Group 3 company back over 1200m.
Other notable hopes in Saturday’s clash include the Ciraon Maher-trained Reward For Effort colt Ability who ran third to Keen Array here last start and stablemate Brockhoff who is a nicely-bred son of Lonhro coming off a fifth in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington last month.
