2015 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic Field: My Poppette Draws 1

Robert Smerdon’s improving filly My Poppette has come up trumps with the inside alley for Saturday’s Crown Oaks lead-up, the Moonee Valley Fillies Classic 2015 on Cox Plate Day.

Due to run as Moonee Valley Race 3 at 1:50pm (AEST) as the opening black-type race on a bumper 10-race program, every event available at Best Tote or SP + 20% through Ladbrokes.com.au on Saturday, this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Alliance Broking Services Fillies Classic (1600m) features a nine-horse line-up.

A number of livewire hopes for the Melbourne Cup Carnival’s $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on November 5 are among the diminutive but classy list of Moonee Valley Fillies Classic acceptors.

One filly that did not feature in Tuesday’s Crown Oaks first acceptances was My Poppette.

Smerdon’s daughter of Snippetson has won two of her six career starts to date, but not since her Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) victory at Flemington back in April where she beat home subsequent Caulfield Guineas runner-up Lizard Island by a length.

She has had three runs this time in, the most recent of which was a third to Badawiya in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) on October 4, and on Saturday gets the run of the race from gate one with Mark Zahra retaining the ride.

Only Ladbrokes are offering an Extra 50% on your very first Fixed Odds winner in Races 1 – 5 at Moonee Valley on Saturday!

Four of her rivals in Saturday’s MV Fillies Classic are still in the Crown Oaks mix this season with the shortest priced in the futures odds for the upcoming Group 1 through Ladbrokes being Sempre Libera ($17).

Gai Waterhouse prepares the Medaglia D’Oro filly who hasn’t won a race since her debut in early April, Saturday her first Melbourne run as she drops back in class off her first 1600m run crossing eighth in the Group 1 Flight Stakes at Randwick on October 3.

The other Crown Oaks-bound fillies facing off this weekend are the Tony McEvoy-trained Adelaide raider Don’t Doubt Mamma, David Brideoake’s Commands filly Thames Court and Bengal Cat prepared by Caulfield’s John Sadler.

Not A Single Doubt filly Don’t Doubt Mamma beat home current $3.40 Crown Oaks favourite Sacred Eye two back over 1400m at Caulfield before a last start sixth in the Edward Manifold she’s out to improve on this weekend.

The Mornington-trained Thames Court also comes out of the Edward Manifold at Flemington over the mile when fifth past the post as a $21 shot in her black-type debut, while Bernardini filly Bengal Cat was 14th in the race at the same price in a below-par run.

Other notable Moonee Valley Fillies Classic chances this weekend include the Andrew Noblet-trained improver Silent Sedition stepping out over the distance for the first time looking to break her maiden status at start number four and the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Air Apparent who ran fourth on Caulfield Cup Day over 1400m after an Edward Manifold eighth so is on the short back-up.
