The Teofilo six-year-old has his debut down under in this week’s $300,000 Group 3 Geelong Cup (2400m) after failing to gain a run in the $3 million Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) as the first emergency for last weekend’s major.

A winner of six of his 18 starts overseas, the gelding was last seen running a brave second behind Big Orange when carrying 61kg in the Group 2 Goodwood Cup (3219m) in late July.

He is top weight in Wednesday’s capacity Geelong Cup field, Sydney-based hoop Tommy Berry to ride Quest For More on 59kg from a wide barrier 16 (into 15) draw.

The Geelong Cup is a lead-up into the ‘race that stops a nation’ with the major assignment for the raider this campaign being the $6.2 million Group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 3.

In all-in Melbourne Cup odds at, who are offering Best Tote or SP + 20% on Wednesday’s Geelong Cup, Quest For More is a $34 outsider, which will shorten if he wins the Geelong Cup.

Two European raiders in the past five years have completed the Geelong Cup – Melbourne Cup double with the French-trained duo Americain (2010) and Dunaden (2011).

The other international in the Geelong Cup line-up this year is Manndawi prepared by Ed Dunlop of Red Cadeaux fame.

Kerrin McEvoy has the ride on the six-year-old from a nice barrier three draw, Manndawi running in Australia for the first time.

Following Quest For More in the Geelong Cup field and weights this year is the Darren Weir-trained veteran nine-year-old Dandino (57.5kg) who was last seen running a brave fourth under a length off the winner Preferment in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (20009m) at Flemington on October 4.

He goes up a kilo this week with Ben Melham retaining the ride, the import boasting winning form up to 2700m and set to appreciate barrier nine (into eight) after doing it tough from 14 of 15 in the Turnbull.

Last year’s Geelong Cup winning jockey Craig Williams, who rode Caravan Rolls On to victory 12 months ago, is after another win this spring aboard the rails-drawn Orbec for John Thompson.

The in-form Le Harve stallion drops down from 55.5kg to 54.5kg after his fourth behind Magic Hurricane in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) in Sydney over the same distance on October 3.

Before that he ran three top three runs including his second in the Group 3 Newcastle Cup (2300m), but is yet to race in Melbourne.

Drawn one on his outside in gate two is Gai Waterhouse’s seven-year-old Bonfire, the Grafton Cup champ last seen running four lengths away sixth in The Metropolitan.

Other notable Geelong Cup hopefuls in 2015 include the Ciaron Maher-trained 2400m specialist Kapour, The Bart Cummings fourth-placed New Zealand visitor Maygrove for Caulfield Cup winning trainer Murray Baker and fifth in the same Flemington lead-up Renew.
