Miss Gunpowder Primed for Thousand Guineas Success

Trainer Phillip Stokes has been thrilled with the form displayed and results posted by Miss Gunpowder through her short but impressive racing career so far, and is confident the three-year-old will line up for Saturday’s 2015 Thousand Guineas (1600m) in peak condition.

Miss Gunpowder is yet to finish outside the first three through five competitive starts since first appearance on course in March, but undoubtedly produced her best effort to date when beating a similar field to the line in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) on September 26th.

Having completed a strong piece of work on Tuesday morning, Stokes told Racing Ahead he cannot fault the talented daughter of Pendragon and is confident she is in the right condition for a maiden win at the highest level in the 2015 Thousand Guineas.

“Going into the Prelude we had her spot on and the fitness is there, so she has had an easy week,” Stokes said.

“She had an easy week and she had a gallop on the course proper this morning with a mate and Craig Williams rode her and she just did 800s even and she ran the last 400 in 21 and a half seconds.

“We are very happy with what we have seen.

“There is not much improvement in her, she is there and she is in good order.

“I am really looking forward to Saturday.”

Trialling well in the lead-up to her competitive debut in autumn, Miss Gunpowder immediately stamped her claims as a filly to follow when delivering a notable field a near-three length defeat in the Darley Handicap (1050m) at Morphettville before immediately returning to the paddock.

Picking up where she left off when taking out the Irish Race Day 29th August BM68 (1100m) on July 25th, Miss Gunpowder made a competitive transition to black type racing when running on for third in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) on August 13th; returning to the winner’s circle in the Hughes Chauffeured Limos Plate (1250m) in her only other start prior to the Prelude.

Allocated the outside barrier 11, Miss Gunpowder has been confirmed to be partnered by last start hoop Craig Williams in the 2015 Thousand Guineas, and is currently available at a quote of $6 for success with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
