Eleven Confirmed in 2015 Thousand Guineas Field

Eleven runners have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2015 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield Racecourse; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Spring Carnival’s standout three-year-old fillies.

Pasadena Girl charged home to win the featured Group 1 Champagne Stakes over a mile at the conclusion of the recent Autumn Carnival, and is offered a great opportunity to extend her dominance over the distance in the Thousand Guineas from barrier 7, with leading hoop Hugh Bowman aboard.

Debuting for success in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) on February 21st, Pasadena Girl continued to impress in taking out the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) before running fourth in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

Returning to the paddock after taking out the Champagne Stakes, the Savabeel filly ran on for second in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) first-up this time before placing fifth in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) last time out.

Miss Gunpowder delivered a number of her Thousand Guineas opponents a comfortable defeat in the Prelude a fortnight ago but will need plenty of luck on Saturday after being allocated the outside barrier 11.

Debuting for success in a Morphettville minor over 1050m in March, trainer Phillip Stokes elected to immediately return to the filly to a paddock; a decision that has already more than paid dividends this season.

Returning for success in the Irish Race Day 29th August BM68 (1100m) on July 25th, the daughter of Pendragon made a competitive debut to black type racing when third in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m); progressing to success in the Hughes Chauffeured Limos Plate (1250m) in her only other start prior to the Prelude.

In a big boost for the three-year-old’s chances, in-form hoop Craig Williams has been confirmed to retain the ride in the 2015 Thousand Guineas.

The Thousand Guineas has experienced plenty of interest from interstate raiders in recent years and that is the case once more in 2015 after Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds confirmed Sagaronne in the final field.

Taking out a Gold Coast minor over 1200m on May 9th, Sagaronne made a successful step up to black type company when taking out the Listed The Phoenix (1350m) on May 30th before finishing a close second to Press Statement in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m).

While yet to find peak condition through two starts this time, the Real Saga filly will relish a return to her pet distance of a mile in the 2015 Thousand Guineas.

Badawiya delivered a strong field a comfortable defeat in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) last weekend, and trainer Mick Price has elected to back up the filly in the 2015 Thousand Guineas.

Returning this time for second in a Sale maiden race over 1200m on July 9th, Badawiya has continued to come on in leaps and bounds; running seventh in the Atlantic Jewel Stakes before taking out the Australian Seed & Turf BM64 (1400m) a fortnight prior to Saturday’s impressive triumph.

Price’s regular hoop Craig Newitt has been confirmed to take the ride on Badawiya, who will also likely need luck in running from barrier 10.

Leading contender Stay With Me could very well receive the run of the race in the Thousand Guineas from barrier 4, while consistent performer Jameka will be partnered by Mark Zahra, from barrier 9.
