Stutt Stakes 2015 Field Released

A final field of 11 three-year-olds will face off in one of the key Moir Stakes Night support acts at Moonee Valley on Friday evening including six last start winners in the 2015 Stutt Stakes.

Running as Moonee Valley Race 5 at 8:45pm (AEST), the $200,000 Group 2 Jeep Stutt Stakes (1600m) field features a host of young guns coming off a victory including Lee & Anthony Freedman’s Roc De Cambes gelding Ragnaar.

After two runs back in New Zealand the Kiwi expat debuted down under at Bendigo on September 17 over 1400m and enjoyed a three-quarter length victory he’ll be out to repeat in tougher company over more distance on Friday night.

Another New Zealand-bred son of Roc De Cambes is He’s Our Rokkii now prepared in Melbourne by David Hayes & Tom Dabernig.

A Group 1 performer having run fourth in the Group 1 Sires’ Produce (1400m) in New Zealand, He’s Our Rokkii is heading towards a run in the $1.5 million Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington on October 31 during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Despite having had just the one run in Australia when winning by two and a half lengths over only 1206m in mid-September at Benalla, He’s Our Rokkii is high up the futures Victoria Derby odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $15 in markets led by Tarzino ($8).

Hayes & Dabernig are also represented in the Stutt Stakes field by Sovereign Nation in gate three who is one of a number of gallopers in the mix eyeing a run Saturday week on the short back-up into the $1 million Group 1 BECK Caulfield Guineas (1600m) over the same distance.

Encosta De Lago colt Sovereign Nation is the shortest priced Stutt Stakes acceptor in the all-in Caulfield Guineas odds and is out to improve on a mid-field finish when seventh to Bon Aurum, $8 co-favourite for the Guineas on October 10, in a Listed Flemington race over 1400m three weeks back.

The other last start winners in the mix are the John Sadler-trained Northern Meteor gelding Polish Tiger, proven miler Get The Picture for Stuart Webb, Peter Moody’s son of Savabeel Admirabeel who won on debut over 1400m at Cranbourne last time out and the Murray Baker-trained Collaborate with the inside run from barrier one.

Kiwi jockey Opie Bosson is over for the ride on Baker’s High Chaparral colt who has had just the two runs in New Zealand to date, the latest a 1400m win in the wet in early September.
