2015 Blazer Stakes Field Features Atlantis Dream

Darren Weir’s veteran seven-year-old Atlantis Dream is one of the form mares accepted to run in the Blazer Stakes 2015 at Flemington Racecourse on Turnbull Stakes Day this Sunday.

The daughter of Elusive City is one of the original 15 acceptors for this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m), running as Flemington Race 8 at 4:50pm (AEST).

An early scratching from the rails-drawn Amarela leaves 14 mares in the set weights plus penalties clash that could lead to a run in the $500,000 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) back at the track on Victoria Derby Day, October 31.

Two back Atlantis Dream won the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) in Adelaide during the winter before a credible first-up fifth beaten just over a length by Politeness in the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

With the extra metres this weekend at Flemington, Atlantis Dream is set to improve boasting a good track record (2-1-1-1) and nice second-up form (3-0-2-1) over her 15-start career to date that has produced six wins.

Other Blazer Stakes runners coming out of the How Now this year include third placegetter Jessy Belle, Satya (6th) and Hazard (7th).

The Luke Oliver-trained Rock Of Gibraltar five-year-old Jessy Belle won back-to-back Flemington races in the winter including a Listed feature on July 11 before coming back this season for a Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200M) fifth in late August and a last start How Now third.

She will appreciate the return to Flemington and will be fitter for her two runs this time in.

Satya is only a lightly-raced Redoute’s Choice four-year-old prepared by Team Hawkes who broke her maiden status at Sandown-Lakeside in a Benchmark 64 before running under one and a half lengths off the winner in the How Now in her maiden black-type assignment.

Hazard was only a nose further back again for seventh in the blanket How Now Stakes finish, the Flying Spur six-year-old best known for her Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) win over Catkins in Brisbane back in June.

Cockram Stakes winner Madam Gangster is another top Blazer Stakes chance on the weekend despite a failed effort at the track on September 12 when 15th of 16 runners in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) that she can atone for here.

The Al Maher five-year-old, trained by Lee & Shannon Hope at Seymour, has won two from four at Flemington including the Group 3 Tressady Stakes (1400m) in March and is a gun over Sunday’s distance with four wins from seven starts.

Other notable mares in the mix include Brian Cox’s returning Swan Hill Cup winner Minnie Downs, last start winner over 2000m at Flemington in early August Manageress and the progressive La Passe who is a stablemate to likely favourite Atlantis Dream.
