A bumper nine-race program kicks off today at 12:25pm (AEST) and continues through until the card closer at 5:20pm (AEST).

There are five black-types highlighting the racing action including a double shot of Group 1 excitement headed by the marquee event – the 2015 Underwood Stakes jumping as Caulfield Race 7 with the full dozen final acceptors all still in the mix.

The other feature race runs as Race 8 with a capacity field of 18 gallopers in the 2015 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and today Ladbrokes.com.au are offering an exclusive Double The Odds offer on the 1400m showdown if you deposit via ‘Cash In’!

Caulfield Scratchings – 26/09/2015

Total Scratchings: 17

Race 1 (12:25pm) – $80,000 Pancare Foundation Plate (1100m)

  • #13 Thinking Of You (12)
  • #14 Sensational Report (2)
  • #15 Trupt (14)
  • #16 Cresta Condor (9)

The first on the agenda is a BM90 handicap for sprinters where the market mover and early favourite is Matilija ($4.60) for Lee & Anthony Freedman, the four-year-old mare boasting two Group 3 thirds in the autumn and a last start third at Pakenham. The big dangers though is the front-running Pittsburgh Flyer ($5.50) drawn a treat in gate three and Group 1 perform Atmospherical ($6.50) also can’t be discounted with an apprentice claim helping with that 64kg top weight.

Race 2 (12:55pm) – $250,000 Inglis Cup (2000m)

  • No current scratchings

This lucrative staying showdown is open only to Inglis Race Series qualified four-year-olds and the markets are led by the undefeated Muraqaba ($2.90) who will need a bit of luck with a quiet ride from a wide barrier (10 of 12) and the market mover Kansas Sunflower ($3.20) in flying form with the gate (3) to give the local grey mare the run of the race.

Race 3 (1:30pm) – $90,000 Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1100m)

  • #1 Sterling City (16)
  • #13 Il Cavallo (3)
  • #15 El Prado Gold (11)
  • #16 Sang Choi Bao (12)

The David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained top weight Sterling City is the most notable scratching after drawing the outside alley and now there are only 12 in the mix (down from 16). The bookies are all about Craftiness ($2.5), Joe Pride’s Concorde Stakes runner-up first-up looking to continue a nice second-up record (3-2-1-0) while there’s also been money for Kuro ($4.80) and Sabatini ($5) who returns here and had awesome form last prep.

Race 4 (2:10pm) – $120,000 Listed italktravel Harry White Classic (2400m)

  • #2 Foundry (2)
  • #8 Reigning (15)
  • #14 Haradafull (6)

The first of the black-types has three scratchings leaving 12 to face off in this handicap clash including the well-fancied Gai Waterhouse import Excess Knowledge ($3.70) carrying the 58kg top weight and Albonetti ($3.90) who has the wide barrier but a two length win over 2500m last time out at Flemington.

Race 5 (2:45pm) – $200,000 Group 2 Schweppes Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m)

  • #6 Reemah (2)
  • #12 Effortless Miss (5)

Ten fillies remain in the mix for this Thousand Guineas (October 10) lead-up and the markets are all about Lindsay Park’s in-form Atlantic Jewel Stakes winner Stay With Me ($3.90), Peter Moody’s Champagne Stakes Group 1 winner Pasadena Girl ($4.40) in a nice gate three draw and the Adelaide raider Miss Gunpowder ($4.60) who has won two of her past three starts.

Race 6 (3:25pm) – $175,000 Group 3 BECK Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m)

  • No current scratchings

The three-year-old colts and geldings eyeing a Group 1 Caulfield Guineas run over the mile next month face off here and all 16 original acceptors are still in the race. The one to beat according to the odds is the Mick Price-trained Ready For Victory ($3.30) coming off a Group 2 Danehill Stakes second down the Flemington straight but money is coming for lightly-raced colt Speith ($13 into $9.50) for the upset after his solid Pakenham win last time out.

Race 7 (4:05pm) – $400,000 Group 1 Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes (1800m)

  • No current scratchings

Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate types face off in this 12-starter edition of the weight-for-age Underwood that has plenty of stars in the line-up including the $3.30 favourite Fawkner fresh off a Makybe Diva Stakes win first-up and the Mick Burles-trained market mover The Cleaner ($5.50) looking to repeat his Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes win over a little more distance from the inside alley.

Race 8 (4:45pm) – $400,000 Group 1 Anthea Crawford Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m)

  • #6 Ninth Legion (12)
  • #20e Moonovermanhattan (8)
  • #21e Yesterday’s Songs (4)
  • #22e Worthy Cause (21)

A capacity field of 18 remains for the Sir Rupert this year including the Hayes & Dabernig-trained first emergency Petrology coming in for Ninth Legion who races in Sydney today instead. Favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.80 is former WA-trained Disposition who is set to get the run of the race from barrier three off a Flemington stakes win first-up over this distance. Also in the betting race is Under The Louvre ($5) who will settle back and fly home late.

Race 9 (5:20pm) – $90,000 The Cup Club Handicap (1700m)

  • No current scratchings

Another staying clash to bring things to an end with 14 in the showdown including Robert Smerdon’s last start winner over the 1700m at Flemington Iggimacool ($4.40) and the consistent five-year-old He Or She ($4.80) who has won seven from 12 to date and was second past the post to Iggimacool last time out.
