Jumping at 1:15pm (AEST) as Rosehill Race 2 on Golden Pendant Day, this season’s $200,000 Group 2 Dyldam Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) features just six hopefuls led by Waller’s Hinchinbrook colt Press Statement.

He sits top of the Stan Fox Stakes odds at paying $1.40 to win for the first time since taking out the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Doomben during the Brisbane Winter Carnival as a juvenile.

Since then he’s had two runs this prep, the latest a fifth in the Golden Rose that he’s tipped to improve on in a smaller field over more distance from barrier two with Hugh Bowman in the saddle this Saturday.

Two of the Caulfield Guineas-bound favourite’s five rivals join him under $10 for the Stan Fox Stakes win this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival with Ragesse ($5.50) and Shards ($7.50) who gets the rails run from barrier one.

Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes prepare Street Cry colt Ragesse who won over 1350m at Wyong in late August two runs into his spring before a last start fourth in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) a fortnight ago.

That was his second Group 1 run after a second to Pride Of Dubai at Randwick in early April’s ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes over the same distance and over 1500m on Saturday Rageese looks a genuine chance.

The John O’Shea-trained Shards is also a Golden Rose graduate, the Godolphin-raced Medaglia D’Oro colt having run seventh in a below par effort after winning the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes (1300m) before that.

Rounding out the Stan Fox Stakes field and markets are then Bruce Hill’s visiting Gold Coast galloper Man Of His Word ($17) who won at home last Saturday in a Class 1 by a tidy margin, the Gerald Ryan-trained filly Fireworks ($21) taking on the boys after two fifth place finishes against her own kind this spring and the $51 outsider in the mix Winning Accord shooting for three straight wins.
