Mick Price’s local colt Ready For Victory has opened favourite to win the 2015 Caulfield Guineas Prelude at Caulfield Racecourse this weekend in Melbourne on way to next month’s Group 1 over the mile.
The More Than Ready three-year-old is one of a bumper 16 hopefuls engaged in the $175,000 Group 3 BECK Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) on Saturday, which is the traditional lead up to the $1 million Caulfield Guineas (1600m) back at the track on October 10.
Second favourite in the futures Caulfield Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au behind Chris Waller’s JJ Atkins winner Press Statement, Ready For Victory is favourite for the Prelude at $3.30 in a field and market absent of Press Statement.
Drawn in barrier nine with Damien Oliver retaining the ride after a last start third on the up-and-comer in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington a fortnight ago, Ready For Victory shoots for his maiden win since a successful debut back in early March.
Following Ready For Victory in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude odds for Saturday are two other hopes under $10 for the win with Bon Aurum ($8.50) and Tulsa ($9.50) both drawn in double digit gates with barriers 12 and 16 respectively.
Kerrin McEvoy has the ride on Ciaron Maher’s Bon Hoffa colt Bon Aurum who comes off a string of top three runs around Melbourne including a last start victory over this distance at Flemington in black-type company when defeating Lizard Island by three quarters of a length as a 26/1 outsider from September 12.
Bon Aurum saluted at juicy odds that day from barrier 13 of 16 and has drawn a similarly wide gate for this weekend’s Group 3 feature that should suit his running style once more.
Tulsa has the outside alley to overcome with Ben Melham riding the Michael Moroney-trained Sebring gelding who comes off a sixth to Bon Aurumn when drawn the same barrier (16 of 16), an effort he’s tipped to improve on with the extra metres of the rematch.
At more generous odds but still with genuine claims at an upset Caulfield Guineas Prelude result include Team Hawkes’s three-time winning Lope De Vega colt Snoopy ($11), Gai Waterhouse’s last start Canterbury winner Dark Steel ($11), progressive Thorn Park colt Speith ($11) and Mr Individual ($13) for Leon & Troy Corstens.
