Chris Waller’s early Caulfield Guineas favourite for next month’s Melbourne major, Press Statement has his next run against a small field of fellow three-year-olds in Sydney on Saturday in the Stan Fox Stakes 2015.
One of the key support acts on the Golden Pendant Day program at Rosehill Gardens, this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Dyldam Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) features just six final acceptors.
Leading the field in barrier two with Hugh Bowman booked for the ride is Waller’s JJ Atkins winner over the Doomben mile in Brisbane during the winter, Hinchinbrook colt Press Statement.
The up-and-comer is third-up this weekend following a Run To The Rose second and a last start fifth at the same track in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) behind Exosphere on September 12.
Press Statement was one of the second acceptors for the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in Victoria on October 10 on Tuesday and could head into that mile clash via the Stan Fox where the step up in distance is set to suit the proven 1600m galloper.
There are two last start winners in the Stan Fox Stakes mix this season with the Bruce Hill-trained stablemates Winning Accord and Man Of His Word drawn beside one another in barriers three and four respectively.
Prepared on the Gold Coast in Queensland, the in-form Authorized gelding Winning Accord comes off back-to-back wins at his home track in easier company including a 1400m victory from September 12.
He has Group 3 form in Adelaide as a juvenile when fourth to The Grey Flash in the SA Sires’ Produce Stakes back in April while Man Of His Word is in black-type company for the first time this weekend on the back of a Class 1 win at the Gold Coast just last Saturday.
Team Hawkes prepare another Golden Rose graduate in Street Cry colt Rageese who won at Wyong in late August before his fourth in the Group 1 from a fortnight ago.
Rageese is also a Group 1 placegetter at Randwick when second past the post behind Pride Of Dubai in the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) during the autumn and is a classy type set to improve as he continues through this prep on way to a possible $1.5 million Group 1 AAMI Victoria Derby (2500m) run at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Rounding out this year’s Stan Fox Stakes line-up are the John O’Shea-trained Shards with the inside run from barrier one with Sam Clipperton taking over for Joao Moreira aboard the Group 3 winning Godolphin galloper and Fireworks.
Gerald Ryan prepares the sole filly taking on the boys in this year’s Stan Fox Stakes, the daughter of Snitzel coming off back-to-back fifths against her own kind most recently when beaten over six lengths by Speak Fondly in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at the start of the month.
