Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Champagne Stakes winning filly Pasadena Girl will head towards another Group 1 run via the Thousand Guineas Prelude 2015 on Underwood Stakes Day at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday.
Set to run as Caulfield Race 5 at 2:45pm (AEST) on the weekend, this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Schweppes Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) has attracted a dozen three-year-old fillies.
The traditional lead-up to the $500,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) back at the track on October 10, the Prelude features all the top fancies for next month’s elite level including the Peter Moody-trained Savabeel filly Pasadena Girl.
She leads the pre-field Thousand Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au and will stay top of the markets with a win this weekend, her first since taking out the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) as a two-year-old in Sydney.
First-up she ran second in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 5 from barrier 11 with Vlad Duric riding, and this weekend she runs at Caulfield for the first time jumping from a better gate three draw with the same hoop aboard.
Atlantic Jewel Stakes winner Stay With Me meanwhile has suffered a blow for the rematch on Saturday, the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained daughter of Street Cry out in 11.
She has won her past two on the trot including the Atlantic Jewel from barrier 13 of 14 however and so can handle the double digit gate in her attempt at a hat-trick with regular rider Dwayne Dunn retaining the ride.
Along with Stay With Me, Hayes & Dabernig have also accepted for Reemah who is drawn a treat in barrier two for hoop Michael Walker.
Runner-up in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at the track in late February she won first-up this time in before a last start sixth to Kinglike in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) she’ll be out to improve on here when up over 1400m for the first time.
Stay With Me is one of four last start winners in the Thousand Guineas Prelude field this year along with Shane Fliedner’s Reward For Effort filly Effortless Miss, the Phillip Stokes-trained Adelaide raider Miss Gunpowder coming off a victory at home from September 5 and the undefeated Alaskan Rose.
Michael Moroney prepares Encosta De Lago filly Alaskan Rose who shoots for her third win from as many starts this weekend, her latest victory being over the 1400m at Caulfield that she sees again on Saturday when defeating Giulietta by over a length.
Steven Arnold stays on the progressive filly and the duo jump from barrier six with Alaskan Rose in stakes’ company for the first time in the Prelude.
Other notable hopes include the Ciaron Maher-trained Jameka who ran third in the Atlantic Jewel in her first run since winning the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in mid-March and Robbie Grifffiths’ consistent daughter of Not A Single Doubt Don’t Doubt Marley.
