The Per Incanto colt is one of 16 final acceptors making up the field for Saturday’s $175,000 Group 3 BECK Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) on Underwood Stakes Day that runs as Caulfield Race 6 at 3:25pm (AEST).

He carries the 57kg top weight for his Group 1 Diamond Stakes (1200m) victory back home in March and jumps from a nice barrier two draw with New Zealand hoop Opie Bosson over for the ride.

Dal Cielo is a $51 outsider for the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) through Ladbrokes.com.au in their updated futures markets on the mile feature on October 10 however, a price set to firm if he’s competitive in his first Australian run on the weekend.

The shortest priced Prelude acceptor for Saturday in the all-in Caulfield Guineas odds is $4 second pick Ready For Victory prepared by Mick Price.

Jumping from barrier nine on the weekend the More Than Ready colt ran a first-up second in the Group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 29 and then ran third in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) a fortnight ago with Damien Oliver, who retains the ride this weekend, in the saddle.

Other three-year-olds high up the Caulfield Guineas markets running the traditional Prelude lead-up that has produced four winners of the Group 1 since 2009 include the Ciaron Maher-trained Bon Aurum and Mr Individual drawn in barriers 12 and four respectively.

Both gallopers are at $15 to win the Guineas and are last start winners with Bon Hoffa colt Bon Aurum having defeated Lizard Island in the Listed Exford Plate (1400m) on September 12 and the Leon & Troy Crostens-trained Mr Individual coming off a 1200m win at Pakenham from September 16.

The other last start winners in the mix are the Gai Waterhouse-trained Dark Steel who won at Canterbury two weeks back, Extra Choice for David Hayes & Tom Dabernig who shoots for a third win on the trot, Thorn Park colt Spieth, Michael Moroney’s recent Geelong winner Strike Force who Glen Boss rides on the weekend and the Chris Waller-trained Metallic Crown.

Veteran hoop Jim Cassidy rides Waller’s flying Northern Meteor colt Metallic Crown who is yet to finish out of the money in four career starts including the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) victory at Randwick in Sydney at the start of the month defeating early Victoria Derby favourite Tatoosh by half a length.

Other notable Caulfield Guineas Prelude contenders this season include the Rodney Northam-trained Snitzel colt Odyssey Moon who ran second to Pride Of Dubai in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) back in April and Danehill Stakes fourth placed Beneteau gelding Purtian for Jason Warren.
