48 Caulfield Guineas 2015 Second Acceptances Taken

The list of potential runners in the 2015 Caulfield Guineas at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday October 10 is down from 100 at first acceptance stage to just 48 hopeful three-year-olds after second declarations close on Tuesday.

Racing Victoria took second acceptances for a host of Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival majors including the $1 million Group 1 BECK Caulfield Guineas (1600m) where Chris Waller trains the early favourite Press Statement.

Leading the pre-field Caulfield Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.60 before the latest round of declarations for the set weights classic, Hinchinbrook colt Press Statement was last seen running fifth in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) in Sydney.

Winner of the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) over the mile in Brisbane during the winter he is tipped to handle the extra metres of the Guineas and hand Waller with his maiden win in the event.

Waller has a total of three in the line-up still with Press Statement joined by his in-form stablemates Metallic Crown and Wudang Mountain.

A winner of his past two on the trot, Northern Meteor colt Metallic Crown was last seen taking out the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) in Sydney on September 5 while progressive Big Brown colt Wudang Mountain’s latest run was a Group 3 Spring Stakes (1600m) fourth at Newcastle last week.

The next best fancied in the futures Caulfield Guineas markets and also accepted for this week are the Mick Price-trained Ready For Victory and Peter Moody’s improver Bassett.

A son of More Than Ready, Ready For Victory hasn’t won since a successful debut down the Flemington straight back in early March but has finished in the money in his two spring runs so far including a third in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) a fortnight ago.

Bassett comes off a win over 1100m at Caulfield from last Saturday in his first run since the Savabeel gelding ran fifth to Press Statement in the JJ Atkins, Moody after his second Caulfield Guineas victory following the success of Anacheeva (2010).

Peter Snowden has won three of the past four editions of the Caulfield Guineas including last year in partnership with his son Paul, but doesn’t have any hopefuls after second declarations this season with the stable’s Group 1 winner and best hope Pride Of Dubai now in the paddock.

Along with Moody the other winning trainer/s from the past half a decade represented in 2015 is Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes who took it out with All Too Hard (2012).

Team Hawkes have four still in contention with Golden Rose fourth placegetter Rageese, Snoopy, Sun Flash and a winner on debut at Geelong last time out by three lengths Secret Prophet.

Other three-year-olds high up the Caulfield Guineas all-in odds among the second declarations include Lope De Vega gelding Santa Ana Lane who is still at the end of the ballot, Ciaron Maher’s last start Listed Exford Plate (1400m) winner Bon Aurum, the Leon & Troy Crostens-trained fellow last start winner Mr Individual and the lightly-raced Puritan for Jason Warren who ran fourth in the Danehill last time out.

2015 Caulfield Guineas final acceptances revealing the field close at 9am (AEST) on Tuesday October 6 at a fee of $5,500 to connections.

Now then is the ideal time to check out the updated markets on all the Melbourne features this spring through Ladbrokes.com.au where quoting the exclusive promo code SPRINGBONUS will see your initial deposit matched by the house up to a juicy $700!
