Warwick Farm horseman David Pfieffer is looking...
This Saturday in Melbourne the best fancied Caulfield Guineas 2015 hope nominated to run in the Prelude at Caulfield Racecourse on Underwood Stakes Day is the Mick Price-trained Ready For Victory.
The More Than Ready colt is one of a bumper 27 early entries taken for the $175,000 Group 3 BECK Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) on Saturday and is the second favourite through Ladbrokes.com.au in the futures markets for the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) back at the track on October 10.
Last seen running third behind Kinglike in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 17, Ready For Victory is currently occupying the second line of all-in Caulfield Guineas odds at $4.
Markets are led by Chris Waller’s JJ Atkins winner Press Statement ($3.60) who heads towards next month’s Group 1 over the mile via either the Prelude in Melbourne or the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes in Sydney that he is also nominated for.
Hinchinbrook colt Press Statement was last seen running fifth to Exosphere in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill a fortnight ago, but with winning form in Brisbane from the winter over a mile is set to appreciate the extra metres of the Guineas.
Last year’s Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting To Win (2014) came via a Stan Fox Stakes win, so Waller may opt to keep Press Statement in Sydney on Saturday instead of taking on Ready For Victory in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude.
Also dually nominated for the CG Prelude and Stan Fox Stakes for Waller is his flying Northern Meteor colt Metallic Crown coming off a Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) win at Randwick from September 6.
Other notable fancies in futures Caulfield Guineas betting nominated for Saturday’s Prelude, which has produced four of the past six Guineas winners most recently Long John (2013) who ran third in the lead-up to the Group 1, include Santa Ana Lane ($13), Bon Aurum ($15), Mr Individual ($15) and Purtian ($15).
The Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Santa Ana Lane has had just the one run to date when winning by two and three quarter lengths over 1100m at Bendigo on debut, Saturday a massive test for the son of Lope De Vega.
Bon Aurum also comes off a last start win, the Ciaron Maher-trained Bon Hoffa colt having stepped up to black-type company for the first time to beat home fellow Caulfield Guineas Prelude nominee Lizard Island at Flemington in the Listed Exford Plate (1400m).
Mr Individual represents Leon & Troy Corstens and the nicely-bred Starspangledbanner colt was first past the post to break his maiden status at start number three at Pakenham on September 16 over 1200m.
Purtian is also lightly raced, the Beneteau gelding having run a credible fourth in the Danehill Stakes at just his second career start with improvement expected.
Other notable Caulfield Guineas nominations for the weekend include ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes runner-up from the autumn Odyssey Moon and the John O’Shea-trained Up & Coming Stakes winner Shards.
