2015 Stan Fox Stakes Nominations Feature Press Statement

A Group 1 winner as a juvenile, the Chris Waller-trained Press Statement is the top rated entry for the Stan Fox Stakes 2015 on Golden Pendant Day in Sydney this weekend.

Nominations for the $200,000 Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) for three-year-olds are extended until 11am (AEST) on Tuesday with only nine early entries taken for the Rosehill Gardens feature.

Of those the highest rated hopeful is Waller’s JJ Atkins champion over the Doomben mile from the winter, Hinchinbrook colt Press Statement.

Press Statement has had two runs this time in most recently not doing enough to finish better than fifth in a disappointing run behind Exosphere in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) from September 12.

He returns to the same track but goes up in distance on the weekend tracking towards a possible run in Melbourne’s $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 10, a race Press Statement leads the early markets at Ladbrokes.com.au for at $3.60.

Last year’s Stan Fox Stakes winner Shooting To Win (2014) went on to complete the double taking out the Caulfield Guineas next start for Peter & Paul Snowden who are without a runner in this Saturday’s lead-up.

Along with likely favourite Press Statement, Waller has also nominated for the in-form Metallic Crown who will shoot for his third win on the trot if accepted for the Stan Fox.

The nicely-bred Northern Meteor colt saluted at Warwick Farm over 1300m on a Heavy (9) track two back before rising in class to win by a half-length at Randwick at the start of the month in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m).

Other last start winners nominated for the Stan Fox this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival are the Gerald Ryan-trained Flying Achilles, Man Of His Word for the Gold Coast’s Bruce Hill and his stablemate Winning Accord.

Fastnet Rock colt Flying Achilles has won his past two on the trot including over the Newcastle mile last Friday on Cup Day with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle, Saturday is first black-type assignment.

Ryan has also nominated for the sole filly in the mix to take on the boys in the Stan Fox with Fireworks, the daughter of Snitzel having run fifth to Speak Fondly in her two runs this prep including the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) last start on September 5.

Man Of His Word meanwhile travels from Queensland for the first time to make his interstate debut if accepted on the back of a Class 1 win at his home track form September 19, while Winning Accord has won back-to-back races on the Gold Coast this time in.

Also in the possible line-up are Street Cry colt Rageese for Team Hawkes who ran fourth in the Golden Rose last time out and also finished second in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) as a two-year-old back in April, and the John O’Shea-trained Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes winner Shards.
