There is a full field engaged to face off in Caulfield Race 8 at 4:45pm (AEST), this year’s Naturalism known as the $150,000 Group 3 Bendigo Bank East Malvern MRC Foundation Cup (2000m).

The early scratching of Banca Mo paves the way for Robert Hickmott’s exciting import The United States to gain a run as the first emergency and the in-form Galileo stallion leads the latest Naturalism Stakes odds at

The United States pays $3.90 for the win, backed in from $4.20, and will appreciate the 54kg minimum weight after carrying 56kg last time out over the Moonee Valley mile when runner-up behind Chance To Dance on the back of a win at the same track over 1500m from August 22.

Other single figure chances in the latest Naturalism Stakes betting markets include eight-year-old Sertorius ($5.50) who won the Group 3 Easter Cup over this track and distance in April, market mover Magnapal ($6) coming off back-to-back wins including the Listed Heatherlie Handicap (1700m) at Caulfield from August 29 and the Ciaron Maher-trained Grafton Cup runner-up Kapour ($7) drawn awkwardly in the outside alley.

So will the best fancied in the Ladbrokes markets take out the placings or is there an upset Naturalism Stakes result on the agenda from a longer priced hopeful such as the Darren Weir-trained Adelaide Cup runner-up from March Taiyoo ($13)?

#1 Our Ivanhowe ($9.50)

Good odds on offer for the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained imported stayer who boasts dual Group 1 wins in Europe. Is a class horse, his last win being in November last year in a Group 1 in Germany over 2400m. Has had just the one Australian start over the Morphettville mile, a distance far too short for the Soldier Hollow six-year-old who has never won over anything less than 2200m. He is Caulfield Cup bound and will be improving over 2000m on his seventh on debut down under back in May. Won a trial in flying style by six months over 1500m last Friday leading up to this and even with the 60kg top weight and wide gate can surprise at an easing price.

#17e The United States ($3.90)

Race favourite and deservedly so, the price only set to firm now he’s guaranteed a run. Third run in this time and comes off a win over 1500m and a second over 1600m at Moonee Valley. Has only had the one previous Caulfield start for a 12th in Group 3 company back in April but should be better than that on Saturday. Four wins from nine starts in total for the lightly-raced six-year-old who should have won his last start and is in flying form. Could prove the one to beat on the 54kg minimum from barrier 11 that he will handle just fine.

#2 Taiyoo ($13)

Double figures offered for Weir’s Haradasun six-year-old who hasn’t won since late February in Adelaide taking out a Group 3 over 2600m before a second in the Adelaide Cup over 3200m. Since then he has had three unplaced runs but out over more distance from barrier one gets a chance to improve this weekend and return to his previous good form.
