2015 Tibbie Stakes Winner She’s Clean Completes Waller Double

Sydney’s best trainer Chris Waller continued to live up to the tag on Newcastle Cup Day on Friday taking out the first two Group races on the card including the Tibbie Stakes 2015 with his veteran mare She’s Clean.

She's Clean

The previous race Waller won the Group 3 Spring Stakes (1600m) with his Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes-bound colt Devil Hawk.

Then in Newcastle Race 5 it was the fillies and mares chance in the $125,000 Group 3 Suez Tibbie Stakes (1400m), a full field of 16 lining up including Waller’s Redoute’s Choice seven-year-old She’s Clean from the second widest gate.

Barrier 15 of 16 didn’t prove a problem for the Group 1 performed stakes winner who had top Sydney-based hoop James McDonald in the saddle.

McDonald bid his time with She’s Clean, whose last win was over 1400m at Randwick back in January, and who enjoyed her fourth first-up win at her 11th attempt in the Tibbie.

The eventual Tibbie Stakes winner was right back in the big field that was led around by fellow seven-year-old, the Kristen Buchanan-trained daughter of Dubelo Two Blue from Wyong.

Doing all the work up front in another typically tough performance from Buchanan’s perennial placegetter, Two Blue sat up in the lead from the likes of Snake Charmer, Miss Tenpins and Anthony Cummings’ last start Mona Lisa Stakes winner Vergara.

Once they went onto the home straight Two Blue, ridden by another veteran in Paul King, was still the one to run down as she charged home bravely towards the finish.

Getting all the luck though after coming from the back of the pack was late market mover She’s Clean ($5.50) and McDonald who had a lovely gap open right up for him, allowing his mare to dive through and hit the line a half-length clear of Two Blue ($12) who was gallant in defeat once again.

Finishing off the Tibbie Stakes trifecta in a close third was then the well fancied Sultry Feeling ($4.60) who didn’t have the right luck in the end, Tommy Berry doing is best on the James Cummings-trained Encosta De Lago four-year-old.

“I wish they opened up like that all the time,” winning hoop McDonald said of the winning gap post-victory.

“She’s a really nice filly and she tries her guts out.”

The likely next-up run for the best performances in the Tibbie Stakes is the $300,000 Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 26, the same meeting Waller’s Spring Stakes winner Devil Hawk is likely to contest the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at.

If good enough, the Golden Pendant winner could progress onto a Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival campaign targeting something like the $500,000 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington Racecourse on October 31.
