Part owner David Moodie is keen on the prospects of Kinglike and is looking forward to coming back to Flemington at the end of October for the Group 1 $500,000 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on the first day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Kinglike ($12) was having his third race start and winning jockey Glen Boss had the Exceed And Excel colt travelling behind the leading division before getting into the clear at the 300m and drawing away in the run to the line to beat the early leader Raphael’s Cat ($6.50) by a  length and a quarter with $3.30 favourite Ready For Victory a head away in third spot.

Boss had been talking up the chances of Kinglike for the last couple of weeks and was very excited to see the colt fulfil his expectations.

“He is a very very good colt,” Boss said.

“His first two runs were outstanding. His first run was outstanding in a highly rated two year old ad then he came out and smashed them at his second starts and Peter (Moody) put him away.”

“I was very fortunate enough to get on this horse about three or four weeks away in a gallop and I begged David Moodie, his owner, if I could ride this colt. And I begged Peter, I said of all the horses in your stable, can you just let me ride this one horse.”

Moodie said the he would leave the Spring program up to trainer Peter Moody but Kinglike was likely to go the the Coolmore Stud Stakes without another run.

The Mick Price trained Ready For Victory was never travelling well behind the leaders but once into the clear at the 200m was doing his best work at the finish.
