There are 12 in the mix for this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) down the Flemington straight on Makybe Diva Stakes Day, the set weights plus penalties race due to jump at 2:10pm (AEST) as the fourth race on the nine-event program.

Leading the latest Danehill Stakes betting odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.20 for the win is the Mick Price-trained drifter Ready For Victory who is on way to the $1 million Group 1 BECK Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 10.

Drawn in barrier six with Damien Oliver taking over for Mark Zahra, the More Than Ready colt is second-up this weekend having run a brave second to Gold Symphony in the Group 3 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes (1200m) on Memsie Stakes Day last time out.

He’s had one other Flemington run, which he won on debut, and was also a brave fourth in the Golden Slipper during the autumn as a juvenile.

Four of Ready For Victory’s rivals are also under double figures for the Danehill Stakes win on Saturday including Gai Waterhouse’s last start Canterbury winner Raphael’s Cat ($5.50) and the rails-drawn Black Vanquish ($6) prepared by local trainer Tom Hughes.

So will this year’s Danehill Stakes be won by the bookies’ selections or is there value to be found further down betting from the likes of early market mover Kinglike ($10 into $8) or even last start Listed McKenzie Stakes winning Star Witness colt Well Sprung ($16)?

1st

#2 Ready For Victory ($3.20)

The race favourite looks hard to bet against here despite the easing price in the markets. The nicely-bred colt has only won one from four but was close first-up in the McNeil Stakes with improvement likely this weekend as he returns to Flemington where he scored a win on debut back in March. Twice Group 1 performed, he has class and is set to improve after a luckless run when resuming and will be hard to hold off with the right ride from big race specialist Oliver.

2nd

#3 Black Vanquish ($6)

Hughes has been talking up this consistent Lonhro colt who has won two from three to date and returns here. Should run well fresh down the straight where he won by two lengths defeating My Poppette back in April. His latest run was at Caulfield in early May when taking out the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1200m), this weekend his first foray in Group company with his trainer confident he’s ready for the step up in grade. A quality sprinter with a nice turn of foot ticking plenty of boxes.

3rd

#6 Kinglike ($8)

Money is coming for this Peter Moody-trained Exceed And Excel colt who broke his maiden status two runs in on May 30 over this distance at Moonee Valley. Rises to black-type company first-up here having his first look at Flemington and will get a gun run with top hoop Glen Boss helping him along.
