Thousand Guineas Hopes Lead 2015 Cap D’Antibes Stakes Field

The 2015 Thousand Guineas campaigns of a host of three-year-old fillies will continue at Flemington Racecourse this Saturday with a number of fancies for next month’s Group 1 facing off in the Cap D’Antibes Stakes 2015.

The opening race at Flemington’s Makybe Diva Stakes Day meeting on the weekend, this year’s $120,000 Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) field features 15 hopefuls led by the undefeated Petitis Filous.

Drawn nicely in barrier six with Damien Oliver to ride, the daughter of Street Boss has won all three of her career starts so far including the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield last time out on August 15.

Oliver has been aboard for all three of those wins and retains the mount as Petits Filous looks to continue her flawless record.

Her big Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival goal is the $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 10, and in the all-in markets at for the Caulfield Guineas Day feature she pays $17.

Other Thousand Guineas entered fillies in the Cap D’Antibes field this weekend include the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Miss Idyllic ($34) who won at Geelong last time out, Flemington stakes winner on Anzac Day My Poppette ($41), Group 3 winner in Adelaide The Grey Flash ($51), the Michael Moroney-trained Group 1 performed Star Witness filly Serenade ($51), Payroll ($51) and Nadawaat ($51).

After Petits Filous the other highest rated filly in the mix is the Robert Smerdon-trained Thurlow draw awkwardly in barrier 13 with Craig Williams to ride.

Sebring filly Thurlow has won two of her six starts to date including the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) at Sandown-Hillside back in February.

Eleventh in the Blue Diamond Stakes at her next run, Thurlow ran second to Strykum in the Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes (1050m) in South Australia before a failed first-up run crossing dead last to Petits Filous in the Quezette.

Lee & Anthony Freedman’s $51 Thousand Guineas hope Strykum backed up from her black-type win in Adelaide with another Morphettville run crossing fourth to Prince Of Brooklyn in the Group 3 National Stakes (1200m) before a last start victory at Moonee Valley over 1200m.

Ben Melham has been aboard the daughter of Stryker for her three latest runs and retains the ride on Saturday with his mount drawn on the rails in barrier one.

Other notable hopes include the Murray Johnson-trained Reward For Effort filly Take Pride who ran fifth in the Quezette Stakes and Pat Carey’s impressive winner on debut at Cranbourne Hela Flyer with a nasty gate 14 draw for her second-up run on Saturday.
