Ready For Victory Leads 2015 Danehill Stakes Field

Mick Price’s early Caulfield Guineas fancy for next month’s Group 1 is also the headline acceptor for his lead-up run in Saturday’s Danehill Stakes 2015 at Flemington Racecourse.

One of the key support acts on the Makybe Diva Stakes Day line-up this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, the $200,000 Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) features a final field of 12 three-year-olds.

Sure-to-be favourite in the Danehill Stakes betting markets at is More Than Ready colt Ready For Victory who heads towards the $1 million Group 1 BECK Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 10.

Twice tested in Group 1 company as a two-year-old including his brave fourth to Vancouver in the Golden Slipper, Ready For Victory ran first-up in the Group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in late August and was brave in defeat when a neck off Golden Rose runner this Saturday Gold Symphony.

Damien Oliver takes over for Mark Zahra this weekend and jumps from barrier six aboard Ready For Victory in the Danehill.

The top-rated acceptor is the Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained Headwater who has drawn wide in barrier 11 for he and jockey Dwayne Dunn to overcome.

Group 2 winning Exceed And Excel colt Headwater ran fifth in the Golden Slipper in March but was disappointing first-up in Sydney when seventh and beaten nearly eight lengths by winner Japonisme in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) on August 15.

A host of fit three-year-olds coming off nice lead-up runs are there to beat in the Danehill Stakes including the Gai Waterhouse-trained Raphael’s Cat who won at Canterbury on August 19, High Chaparral colt from Adelaide Last Bullet, McKenzie Stakes winner at Moonee Valley Well
, runner-up in the same Listed feature from August 22 Danuki, promising Lonhro colt Brockhoff prepared by Ciaron Maher and Reemah.

Runner-up to Pride Of Dubai in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in February before a disappointing 15th in the Slipper, the Redoute’s Choice filly won first-up at Geelong on August 28 and is the only female galloper taking on the boys in the Danehill.

Another last start winner in the mix is Tom Hughes’s locally trained Lonhro colt Black Vanquish who is first-up on the weekend having won the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield last time out in early May.

Black Vanquish is another 2015 Caulfield Guineas hopeful but is only rated a $67 outsider in the futures markets.

Also first-up and coming off a win is the Peter Moody-trained Kinglike drawn in barrier five with Glen Boss booked for the ride on the Exceed And Excel colt whose last start was 1200m Moonee Valley win at the end of May.
