Pasadena Girl Heads 2015 Thousand Guineas First Acceptances

Peter Moody’s Champagne Stakes winning filly Pasadena Girl is the headline first acceptor for next month’s Thousand Guineas 2015 on Caulfield Guineas Day.

The three-year-old daughter of Savabeel was last seen running a first-up second in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley and is one of 108 fillies paid up for at first acceptance stage on Tuesday for this year’s $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m).

Originally there were 277 Thousand Guineas nominations this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival but now under half that remain following the first acceptances taken by Racing Victoria.

Leading all-in Thousand Guineas betting at Ladbrokes.com.au at $7 is Pasadena Girl who is Moody’s best chance at winning the race for the first time.

His other first acceptors were Altamira and Beachley.

Next best fancied in the futures Thousand Guineas odds, the impeccably-bred daughter of 2006 Thousand Guineas winner winner Miss Finland Stay With Me ($8) is the other headline first acceptor.

She beat home Pasadena Girl in the Atlantic Jewel Stakes, the daughter of Street Cry one of 11 Thousand Guineas-bound fillies still in the mix for Lindsay Park’s David Hayes & Tom Dabernig.

The stable’s other notable entries include last start Geelong winner Miss Idyllic and Redoute’s Choice filly Reemah who was runner-up to Pride Of Dubai in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) as a two-year-old in the autumn.

Before partnering up with Dabernig, Hayes won the Thousand Guineas with both the aforementioned Miss Finland (2006) and Irish Lights (2009).

Also high up the current Thousand Guineas markets are Michael Moroney’s undefeated daughter of Encosta De Lago Alaskan Rose, Adelaide visitor Miss Gunpowder who won by two lengths at home last Saturday and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Speak Fondly.

Northern Meteor filly Speak Fondly is a triple Group 2 winner after taking out the Silver Shadow Stakes – Furious Stakes double this time in at Randwick and this weekend she takes on the boys in the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill.

Waterhouse is yet to train a Thousand Guineas winner and has eight first acceptors this year with others of note including recent Canterbury winner Themis, Group 2 performed Sempre Libera, Kindergarten Stakes runner-up Regatta Rebel, Stratum filly Flamboyant Lass and Kimberley Star.

A winner of three on the trot, Star Witness filly Kimberley Star ran second to Speak Fondly in the Silver Shadow and was last seen crossing third to Metallic Crown in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) at Randwick last Saturday.

Along with Alaskan Rose, another classy and undefeated filly among the Thousand Guineas first acceptors is the Ciaron Maher-trained Petite Filous who has won all three of her career starts to date including the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) in mid-August.

Maher’s other headliner is Myboycharlie filly Jameka who won the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in mid-March before a last start third in the Atlantic Jewel.

Other top fillies among the first declarations include the Gerald Ryan-trained daughter of Snitzel Fireworks, JJ Atkins runner-up to Caulfield Guineas favourite Press Statement in the JJ Atkins Sagaronne and the John O’Shea-trained winner on debut Painted Firetail.

O’Shea has a total of nine entries for Godolphin with others including the consistent Exceed And Excel filly Pearls, Black Opal Stakes placegetter Antelucan and Furious Stakes third placed Ottoman who won the Group 3 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) back in April.

Notable non-acceptors include Waterhouse’s Golden Slipper runner-up English and Fleur Fatale who won the VOBIS Gold Ingot.

See below for the full Thousand Guineas 2015 first acceptances, second declarations closing on September 22 followed by the final field on Tuesday October 6.
