2015 Sheraco Stakes Nominations Feature Catkins

Chris Waller’s defending champion Catkins is the headline nominee for the Sheraco Stakes 2015 this Saturday in Sydney at Rosehill Gardens as part of the Golden Rose Day program.

Twelve months ago the classy daughter of Dubawi took out the $125,000 Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) kicking off a strong Sydney – Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival that concluded with a brave third to Bonaria in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington.

This weekend the now six-year-old will shoot for back-to-back Sheraco Stakes wins, Catkins last seen running sixth to Srikandi in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast on June 20, the race attracting 15 fillies and mares.

She has trialled twice since including a strong third to That’s A Good Idea over 900m at Rosehill, where she races on Saturday, over 900m when beaten under half a length with Hugh Bowman in the saddle.

Along with the reigning Shearco Stakes winner Waller also has stablemates She’s Clean and Winx nominated for the race this year.

Veteran Redoute’s Choice seven-year-old She’s Clean is after her first win since a four length romp over 1400m at Randwick in non-black type company back in January, her last start being a fourth to Peace Force in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben during the winter.

Winx is a dual nominee across the Rosehill race card on Saturday also entered for the $200,000 Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m).

Whichever race Waller choses to run her in, the Street Cry mare will be making her four-year-old debut having won back-to-back races last campaign including the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) in late May.

After Catkins the other highest-rated Sheraco Stakes nominee this spring is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Bounding who also holds a nomination for the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) in Melbourne on Saturday at Flemington.

The five-year-old daughter of Lonhro has finished outside the top two in just one of her 15 starts to date, her record boasting eight wins including the Group 3 The Heath 1100 (1100m) that she won first-up at Caulfield on August 29.

She has never raced at Rosehill, her last start in Sydney being in April last year at Randwick, and connections are likely leading towards the Makybe Diva Stakes Day run in Melbourne for her second-up.

Other top rated entries for the fillies and mares set weights plus penalties race in Sydney include the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Gregers and stablemate Girl Guide.

Gregers, runner-up in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) in Adelaide back in May, ran first-up at Moonee Valley crossing seventh to Le Bonsir in the Listed Norman Carlyon Stakes (1000m).

Girl Guide also crossed well back last time out when eighth, beaten under two lengths, to Madam Gangster in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) run at Caulfield on August 29.

Gai Waterhouse also boasts multiple Sheraco Stakes nominees with four-year-old stablemates Echo Gal and Supara.

Runner-up in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) at Randwick on August 22, Stratum mare Echo Gal ran again last Friday at Wyong in the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) but could only manage to finish 11th to Vergara.

Supara was also disappointing last run, the daughter of Domesday crossing two and a half lengths away ninth to Sultry Feeling in a Benchmark 80 for fillies and mares over 1100m at Rosehill.

Winner of that lead-up, the James Cummings-trained Sultry Feeling is also among the Sheraco Stakes nominations for Saturday, the consistent daughter of Encosta De Lago seeking back-to-back wins.

Other notable Sheraco Stakes hopes include Bede Murray’s Good Journey four-year-old Fine Mist racing for the first time since a Listed second at Scone in mid-May and last start winner at track and distance Peeping for Ron Quinton.

The Sheraco Stakes 2015 field and barriers are out on Wednesday so bookmark us here at Races.com.au to view the line-up.

Before then make sure you’re ready to back your favourites across the Sydney card by signing up with Ladbrokes.com.au and quoting the exclusive code SPRINGBONUS to also have your first deposit matched dollar for dollar up to a generous $500!
