Last start The Heath 1100 winner Bounding is one of the top nominees for the Bobbie Lewis Quality 2015 on Makybe Diva Stakes Day in Melbourne this Saturday at the famous Flemington Racecourse.
Racing for the first time since November last Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, Peter & Paul Snowden’s Lonhro five-year-old Bounding returned with a Caulfield win on August 29 in the Group 3 The Heath 1100 and is now nominated to shoot for back-to-back wins this weekend.
She is in the mix as one of 19 sprinters in the $200,000 Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m), won last year by the classy Chautauqua who went on to win the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) by four lengths over Bounding and finish second in the $1 million Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
The 2015 Darley Classic could be on the cards for Bounding this November should she continue her winning ways including this weekend in the Bobbie Lewis.
Also coming off a nice round behind the mare in The Heath 1100 and nominated for a rematch this Saturday are runner-up Rich Enuff and Robert Smerdon’s fifth-placed Under The Louvre.
The Ken Keys-trained four-year-old stallion Rich Enuff was runner-up in the Caulfield Guineas last season and returned with his second place he’ll be out to improve on this weekend if accepted.
Under The Louvre is a five-year-old Excellent Art stallion and the first-up fifth followed a nice third to Flamberge in Adelaide in mid-May’s Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m).
Along with Bounding there is a host of other last start winners in the mix including the returning Snitzel six-year-old Amorino who has won two from four at Flemington, Mick Price’s Group 2 Queensland Guineas champ from the winter in Brisbane over the mile Jabali and Riziz.
Ken Sweeney’s South Australian raider Riziz has won two on the trot back home including the Listed Penny Edition Stakes (1400m) over Alpine Eagle and races at Flemington for the first time since May last year.
Other notable Bobbie Lewis Quality nominations this year include Robert Sangster Stakes runner-up Gregers, the Peter Moody-trained Il Cavallo last seen crossing third in the Listed Norman Carlyon Stakes (1000m), Cockram Stakes third placed mare Vezalay who is also nominated for the Let’s Elope Stakes at the meeting and Kaepernick representing last year’s winning trainers Team Hawkes.
