Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
An exciting line-up of three-year-old fillies is engaged for Saturday’s 2015 Atlantic Jewel Stakes in Melbourne, betting tips for the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes Day support race detailed below.
There are 14 in the mix for this year’s $120,000 Listed Telstra Phonewords Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) with the first emergency Inner City Girl getting a run after the early scratching of Hela Flyer who was drawn out wide.
Atlantic Jewel Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au is led narrowly by another widely-drawn filly, Peter Moody’s Group 1 winner Pasadena Girl ($4.40) who will jump from gate 11 with Vlad Duric aboard.
To date the daughter of Savabeel has won three of her four runs including the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) over the Randwick mile during the autumn.
She’s had two runs for two black-type wins in Melbourne too down the Flemington straight, so how she handles the tight turns at Moonee Valley first-up will determine her winning chances.
The other best fancied fillies in the Atlantic Jewel Stakes odds are the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained last start winner over 1200m Stay With Me ($4.60), Mick Price’s progressive daughter of Al Maher Badawiya ($7.50) and market mover Sweet Redemption ($8) backed in from double figures over the past 24 hours with the Gai Waterhouse-trained Snitzel filly having her maiden run outside of Sydney.
So will the Group 1 winning favourite get the job done for the punters or is there value in tipping an upset Atlantic Jewel Stakes result on Saturday?
#13 Badawiya ($7.50)
She’s yet to race in black-type company but the runaway seven length win over 1200m at Murtoa on August 15 suggests this filly is ready to make the step up in class and will do it with ease. She’s drawn well in gate nine, which will become eight, giving her and jockey Craig Newitt plenty of chances to score at a good price. She’ll be up on the speed and if she can repeat her efforts from three weeks ago, she’ll take a hell of a lot to catch.
#1 Pasadena Girl ($4.40)
Group 1 winner boasts the class but she’s first-up giving away a fitness advantage and has suffered a blow with a wide gate. She could still finish first though if she and Duric get the right one from the barrier and find some cover. The 57.5kg is very manageable against her own kind here, and while she’ll be improving over more distance, first-up she should handle the 1200m well having won the Listed Talindert Stakes at Flemington over only 1000m in her other first-up run to date.
#9 Don’t Doubt Mamma ($26)
Lots of livewire hopes to fill the final placing, with many of these getting fit before stepping up over more distance later this spring. At this price though the nicely bred Tony McEvoy-trained daughter of Not A Single Doubt is too overpriced to ignore. She’s going up in the grades here and while she’s yet to race over further than 1000m, the way she’s handled herself at home (Adelaide) and on debut at Flemington on New Year’s Day suggests she can handle the extra metres.
