Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
A final field of 10 sprinters has been released for one of the key support races on the Chelmsford Stakes Day card with some quality types in the mix for this Saturday’s 2015 Concorde Stakes in Sydney.
Running as Race 5 at 3:05pm (AEST), this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) is led by the Joe Pride-trained Ball Of Muscle who carries the 59kg top weight in the set weights plus penalties clash.
Drawn ideally in barrier three the ultra-consistent Dubawi five-year-old has run top three in all 13 of his career starts to date including eight victories, the latest of which was in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival back in late May.
A gun at the short distance features with two wins and a second from three previous 1000m starts, Ball Of Muscle is undefeated at Randwick with two previous victories at the track he returns to this weekend in his first-up start of the season.
Along with his first-up specialist Ball Of Muscle who has a gun record when resuming (4-2-2-0), Pride is also represented in this year’s Concorde Stakes field by Craftiness in gate five with Blake Shinn riding.
The Starcraft gelding hasn’t raced since a dead last when 12th behind You’ll Never over 1350m at Rosehill on May 9, but has won six of his nine starts overall and should be flying fresh with two wins and a second from three previous first-up assignments.
Along with Ball Of Muscle there are three other last start winners in the mix on the weekend including the Tony McEvoy-trained Shiraz in gate eight for jockey Hugh Bowman.
Undefeated this time in, the Zariz six-year-old shoots for four wins on the trot and was last seen at Flemington back on August 8 winning the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) with Damien Oliver in the saddle.
The other last start winners are the Clarry Conners-trained Decision Time and Fell Swoop drawn in the outside gates nine and 10 respectively.
Veteran Foreplay eight-year-old Decision Time won the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) for his third Randwick win on August 22 while Fell Swoop shooting for a hat-trick of wins after Matthew Dale’s Not A Single Doubt four-year-old enjoyed wins at Rosehill (1100m) and Randwick (1000m) at his two latest starts.
The Canberra-based Dale has also accepted for Unanimously (barrier four), the eight-year-old Not A Single Doubt gelding not having raced since a fifth in the 2014 Winter Dash over a year ago.
Other notable Concorde Stakes hopefuls this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival include Group 2 winner Happy Galaxy and Northern Meteor mare Atmospherical who was last seen running third in the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m) at Scone in mid-May.
