2015 The Run To The Rose Tips & Selections

The feature race in Sydney at Saturday’s Rosehill Gardens meeting is The Run To The Rose 2015, betting tips on the Golden Rose lead-up detailed below.

Set to run as Rosehill Race 5 at 3:05pm (AEST), this year’s $175,000 Group 2 MTA NSW Run To The Rose (1200m) features just seven three-year-olds facing off in the set weights plus penalties clash.

Favourite of those in the latest Run To The Rose betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au paying a firming $2.45 for the win is the Chris Waller-trained flyer Japonisme.

After opening at $2.70 the in-form Choisir gelding has been backed into $2.45 to post his fifth win from as many starts this time in from a gun barrier one draw with Hugh Bowman in the saddle.

Last time out he made his black type debut and scored the upset in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill a fortnight ago, another win this weekend likely to see his early price to win the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 12 firm further.

All but one of Japonsime’s six rivals in The Run To The Rose are also under double figures to win this weekend including John O’Shea’s Group 2 winning Lonhro colt Exosphere ($4.60) and the fellow Waller-trained Press Statement ($5) running for the first time since taking out the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) in Brisbane.

So will the first three in betting be the first three over the line or is there value to be found further down the markets from the likes of Godolphin’s other galloper Holler ($7.50), Gai Waterhouse’s last start Canterbury winner Raphael’s Cat ($8.50) or Redzel ($9) for Team Snowden?

1st

#3 Japonisme ($2.45)

The deserving favourite, this up-and-comer is in ace form having won all four of his starts this time in including the Group 3 where race favourite Vancouver failed to finish in the money. Waller has this galloper firing on all cylinders and he looks very hard to bet against looking at the ace lead-up and the inside alley here. He is fit and ready to run another big race. Whether he goes all the way to the Golden Rose is yet to be seen, but should win this.

2nd

#1 Press Statement ($5)

Think it can be an all-Waller quinella with the Group 1 winner to run a cheeky race first-up. Will obviously be improving on whatever he does in his resuming run, but this unbeaten Hinchinbrook colt has class having won all three of his previous starts including the Group 1 over the mile in Brisbane. Has trialled twice since and the 1200m will be a little short for his liking, but with the right ride from jockey Tye Angland he can get on the back of the stablemate and do a decent job in a small field.

3rd

#5 Raphael’s Cat ($8.50)

Raphael’s Cat jumps from barrier four and is Waterhouse’s sole runner after she opted to take the Golden Rose favourite Vancouver straight into next month’s Group 1 without another lead-up. The Redoute’s Choice colt has won two of his three starts to date, including over 1200m at Canterbury first-up on August 19 by two and a half lengths. Will enjoy the drop back from 59kg to the 56kg.
