Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
One of the key support races on the Caulfield card in Melbourne this weekend is The Heath 1100 Stakes 2015 for the older sprinters, betting tips and an odds update for which can be found below.
Running as Memsie Stakes Day Race 5 at 2:45pm (AEST) on Saturday afternoon, this year’s $150,000 Group 3 The Heath 1100 Stakes (1100m) is known as theshark.com.au Stakes.
There are only eight final acceptors in the field for the set weights plus penalties race, the favourite of which in the latest The Heath 1100 Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is the rails-drawn Group 1 performer Rich Enuff.
Jumping from the advantageous barrier one with top hoop Dwayne Dunn in the saddle, Ken Keys’ Written Tycoon stallion makes his four-year-old debut as the firm $2.20 top fancy in The Heath.
Winner of three straight during last year’s Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival including a Group 2 and Group 3, he was runner-up to Shooting To Win in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) before the drop back to 1200m was the wrong move and he finished seventh to Brazen Beau in the Coolmore on Derby Day.
He hasn’t raced since missing the autumn in a setback, but looks on track for a big return after two Cranbourne trial wins in the wet this month including defeating Royal Snitzel by a length a week back.
Three other horses are also under double figures for The Heath win this weekend including Peter & Paul Snowden’s Lonhro mare Bounding at a firming $3.90 for her first run since last November.
After her first win since March when still prepared in New Zealand, the now five-year-old won a Rosehill trial over Happy Galaxy on August 17 leading up to this weekend where she jumps from gate seven with Kerrin McEvoy riding.
The other hopes under $10 are then the returning consistent Robert Smerdon-trained stallion Under The Louvre ($6.50) last seen running third in Adelaide’s Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) in mid-May and the market mover Miss Promiscuity ($7) representing David Hayes & Tom Dabernig.
So do the bookies have it right or is there value to be found further down The Heath 1100 Stakes betting markets from the likes of Peter Moody’s The Goodwood fifth placed Thermal Current ($11) or Bull Point ($12)?
#1 Rich Enuff ($2.20)
He is short in the markets, but the race favourite Rich Enuff is ticking too many boxes to ignore in this small field without too many standouts in the mix. Barrier one will suit, comes off back-to-back trial wins so looks fit, runs well fresh (2-1-0-1) and has a solid Caulfield record (2-1-1-0). He won the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas (1400m) prelude here last September and was narrowly beaten in the Caulfield Guineas as a three-year-old so has class
#8 Miss Promiscuity ($7)
Money is coming for Lindsay Park’s daughter of Magnus and it isn’t too hard to see why as the five-year-old continued her top Caulfield race record (4-2-1-0) with a Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes win over 1100m here in early July. She’s had a little freshen-up since and could be hard to beat again as she shoots for her second win from four runs over this track and distance drawn well in gate five.
#5 Bull Point ($12)
A genuine danger at double figures, Tony McEvoy’s Fastnet Rock stallion Bull Point is first-up here and has a good record when resuming to date (4-2-0-1). His latest run was back in late March when fifth in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude over 1500m, and hasn’t been first past the post since February last year when he won the Group 3 Manfred Stakes (1200m) here at Caulfield. Track suits and his trial win in Adelaide at the start of the month was promising.
