Due to jump as Race 9 at 5:20pm (AEST) on Memsie Stakes Day, this year’s $120,000 Listed Sheen Group Heatherlie Stakes (1700m) – also known as the Slickpix Stakes – features a capacity field.

Sixteen runners are guaranteed a start plus there are also two emergencies lying in wait for the last on Saturday.

In the latest Heatherlie Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au there are two gallopers installed as equal $4.60 favourites with the widely-drawn Gai Waterhouse-trained import Excess Knowledge and Robert Smerdon’s consistent Iggimacool battling for favouritism.

They are the only two hopefuls in the field under double figures to win.

The next best in Heatherlie Stakes betting are the nicely drawn Extra Zero ($10) in barrier four who comes off a second at Flemington, British import Bold Sniper ($10) in his debut down under, Mick Price’s last start winner over the mile at the track Onpicalo ($11) and the Peter Moody-trained mare Dig A Pony ($11) who also won over the 1600m at Caulfield last start.

With a notable gap between the top two and the rest of the field, there could be nice value in an upset Heatherlie Stakes result this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

#13 Iggimacool ($4.60)

While there are plenty of livewire hopes at good odds, the co-favourite Iggimacool is in form and could prove hard to hold off. Glen Boss takes over here on the Savoire Vivre five-year-old who has run second at the track at her last two runs, most recently behind fellow rival on the weekend Onpicaol over 1600m a fortnight ago. She’s well weighted on the 54kg minimum and has been charging home well late in her lead-up runs suggesting the step up in distance, plus a run on speed, will suit.

#9 Let’s Make Adeal ($13)

A horror draw (18) for Nigel Blackiston’s Red Ransom mare, but despite that and her poor record at Caulfield, think fresh over the distance she’ll be a surprise factor. Really impressive over her winter campaign including the second in the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville and her win at the same track over 2000m a fortnight after that. Latest run was in Queensland when fourth and beaten only a length in the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2200m). She will obviously improve on whatever she does here, but wouldn’t rule out a top three finish to kick off the spring.

#14 Onpicalo ($11)

Classy Price-trained Hussonet gelding with good lead-up form, including the win over Iggimacool here on August 15. He did only carry 52k that day however and so will need to improve with 54kg this weekend. That said he did a lot right the other week and is in peak form so will be a fighting finish.
